How deep do you think an Explorer would go, if possibly there was a cache of 60,000 dollars in gold coins? Two feet, four feet or eight feet? Do you think I should purchase ground penetrating radar or a bulldozer?

A two box (whites TM808,Fisher,Garrett or Discovery Electronics TF 900) and a good cache detector
(Whites sierra madre,Fisher CZ,1266 both with large coils,Nautilus DMC2ba with 15" coil, a PI with large coil,Minelab SD 2100 with large coil,relic hawk,musketeer xs with 15" coil
If it is buried in a ferrous container a magnatometer such as Fishers FX 3

Well, I was able to locate a beer can at 2.5 ft.
Good look with your hunt.
One more think, the Fisher Gemini 3 was unable to locate the same can. Also the MasterHunter from Garret with 14in coil was unable.

Like Russ said it would depend what type container, but I would bet the expolorer with the stock coil would see it at least 4 feet down if just in a pile in a sack or something.. maybe deeper if the ground is clean.. with a wot or X12 it would probably see them a bit deeper than what ever the 10 inch coil would. I can pick up the bumper of the car at least that far away
