been thinking of getting new detector, use a cz5 now and the gold is few and far between is that because of no gold in the ground or am i missing it with the detector which is not sen. to gold? i hear the higher freq more sen to gold. the eureka gold seems like the lick 3 freq setting. and made for mineralized ground shouldn't it ground balance in wet sand. oh by the why Ive been detecting on and off mid 80's first detector was a whites coinmaster in 1986 and owned all major brands, but do love the cz's but minelabs pulling me in, eureka or gt, dang it i want gold and i believe it there at the beaches iam just not hitting on it

Many people feel the GT or Excal is the best machine on the market for gold rings. Great depth and very good audio to listen to. Not small gold, though like earings and such. Other machines are more sensitive to that stuff. Paying attention to how good the audio is isn't all that important when beach or water hunting since you should scoop it all, but if you land hunt for rings in parks and such then you want good detailed drawn out audio to help decide to dig or not. Not saying you can tell rings from trash with any kind of success but you can tell a lot of trash by how bad it breaks up, sounds harsh, and so on. Especially the iregular shaped junk. Most rings should have a nice warm, round sound to them and lock onto one or two numbers. It's wierd but if you play with some rings and sweep over them you can just "tell" that it's a good sounding target compared to a lot of trash. Hard to put into words what I mean though.

I know a guy who uses an MXT to land hunt for rings all the time and he swears he can tell the difference in sound between a pull tab and a ring. I tend to believe him because this guy is popping gold rings it seems like all the time. When I used to own a QXT Pro I could hear the double chirp of the two holes in a square pull tab if I was using a small coil on it. Of course they had to be laying flat and not too deep but it worked.

Your CZ is very good on gold, better than the Sov/Excal if you hunt dry sand and arent using the salt mode. In salt mode the two square up evenly except for the coils on the Sov/Excal are DD and I myself prefer those, a little better coverage and seperation on targets. Unless your beach is very littered, make sure your using the larger CZ coil, 10.5" which retains the small gold finding ability but really increases your depth and coverage. And dont notch anything out, minimum disc or auto tune if you can stand digging all targets.

Bottom line is you have to put the coil over the gold, it does get frustrating sometimes, maybe try a new site, one youve never hunted?
