Gold with the MXT Pro?

I was curious how many of you all have prospected for gold using the MXT Pro? How small of a piece could it find? I have yet to see any youtube videos of anyone legitimately prospecting with one and showing the gold afterwards. Im not doubting that the MXT Pro can get gold. Im just curious how many of you have used prospecting mode with success in finding gold nuggets.

[size=large]i'm pretty sure the MXT is not the choice of real prospectors. it can be used but every video i've seen shows one has to be real close to pick up a nugget. on you tube "finding Gold vII i think is the one that shows various machines and the size gold it takes to pick up on it. the key word is it can be used. if you're gunna get serios then you'd get the machines made for the hunt. it's all in the hype.

A few years ago we had a couple of guys that used the MXT for prospecting and wouldn't have any other machine. Lots and lots of small gold nuggets were found with the MXT. I'm trying to think of his name. I'll give it some thought........HH, Nancy
 
Thanks widebody and Nancy! I was inclined to believe this machine would be good for getting silver coins however, I was highly skeptical in the machine picking up gold nuggets any deeper than a couple of inches in highly mineralized soils like those of prospecting localities of VA. Im still undecided but im pretty sure if it got some decent gold in mineralized soils there would be more videos or posts on it.
 
Hillbilly Bob is a very trustworthy person that has found his share of gold with the MXT and then some. If you want more info, research older posts. HH, Nancy
 
The machine is known to hunt nuggets well. Tiny flakes of gold may require a machine with a higher frequency. Problem is those machines are not as good on other targets due to their ability to see tiny metal. If you hunt flakes of gold then you probably need to pan. If you hunt nuggets the MXT is a good choice and it works on other targets and other conditions well too. The prospecting mode is designed for nuggets but it may not see tiny stuff.
 
For more info on the mxt's capabilities you should look at Steve Hershbach's "Alaska Mining & Diving" site, He has found pounds of nuggets from 1 gram up to 6+ oz's with the mxt, if you look on his website he lists all the best metal detectors for nugget hunting, he is a serious pro at this type of detecting. I purchased my mxt after talking with him face to face and also purchased an infinium from him so I could have the best of both worlds which is a great vlf like the mxt and a great pulse unit like the infinium, Both these units worked great for me and I put the mxt's coil over some nice nuggets, 22+ oz's total over 6 yrs hunting between North Carolina and Alaska. I very seldom used the prospecting mode however because I found that the relic mode worked even better, my setup/tune was usually relic mode disc 2, faint threshold tone, trigger forward and sensitivity anywhere from pre-set to as high as 3 depending on soil. Depth was fom 2-3" on .5 gram picker to 10" on a 27 gram nugget (My largest),

Yes Larry, here are a few of the bigger nuggets I have found, the only ones that weren't made into jewelry was the horse head shaped nugget which I sold at christmas 2009 for 1,350.00, I use a small .5 gram nugget enclosed in a clear plastic key chain cover for my throw down test and tune. I have sent a pick of my old website "Goldpan Jewelry" also. I don't make as much jewelry anymore as I do not currently have any claims in Alaska. I still hunt in North carolina some, but mostly beach hunt now.

The sterling and gold Eagle ring was made by hammering out a silver band of sufficient width to carve a crude eagle out and fill with gold pickers and flakes then locked in place with Jewelry grade epoxy, polished and antiqued I think looks great as an earthy rustic style ring. Btw I went to jewelry school at Earthspeak Arts in Asheville N.C. my teacher was mr. Bill Churlick, just so ya know. He said i was the only jeweler he knew that risked life and limb ging to alaska just to find jewelry materials lol, what he didn't know was that I was a treasure hunter first and formost and just decided to find a way to better sell my finds in a mre market friendly way lol, doing this has paid for my mxt many many times over. Not to shabby for an old Navy guy (USNavy 1965-71)

I hope you guys aren't getting tired of this lol, I will try to find a pic of all the nuggets in a raw state and send them also, I may have to take them off of a regular photo which I have smewhere in my piles of stuff lol
