Gold vdi.

Does gold vdi jump in the atpro? Is it possible a small ring deep can jump BETWEEN numberous numbers (example) 42-51 52-59 60-73 ect...I know some gold are solid numbers.

I once found a small ring jumping at 42-50.Would digging vdi number such as these worth a dig?I havent been digging much vdi 60s and im afraid that im missing great targets.

It's normal for the vdi number to move up or down a few. It's also possible for a gold ring or necklace with a different metal attached or very close to cause the vdi to jump even more.

Yours is the BILLION dollar question. Gold can and will hot from foil to zinc penny with no rhyme or reason. Gotta dig it all if you want the gold. ;(

As a general rule shallow gold will have a tight VDI number varying not more than a few numbers. It can be from the low 40's up, but should maintain a tight VDI range. Now, deeper gold it's all bets off and can vary quite a bit in the VDI range.

22 karat gold is alloyed with silver. Because they are so fast, the AT machines can sense this and will try to split the tones.

There isn't much 22k gold out there. Other items can also be split up. Bottlecaps for sure. From everything I have heard, most gold will give a nice tone and hold close on the ID #'s.

I dig a lot of those signals in the parks. Not many targets left from the 0" - 6" range in this one particular part of the park that I hunt during the season. I started digging those deep iffy signals. If its deep, the vdi wont lock onto the same number 100% every time, but there is a range it will come in. I would dig them just to be sure. One never knows. Just my 2 cents.

You nailed it right on. It's been said only 3% of lost gold jewelry has been recovered. I don't know how accurate of a statement that is, but if it is only half correct, that means 94% lost gold jewelry is yet to be recovered. Who wants to dig that wide range of "trash" signals for some gold? Me for one.

Hello Swingbeep,

Those deep iffy signals can be all over the screen, especially in trashy areas laced with iron.

Here are this past weekend finds, Saturday was using the CTX bagged 1 barber dime, 3 Indian pennies and 3 wheat pennies.

Sunday switched to the AT Gold, 4 wheat pennies and 1 buffalo nickel. These are park finds all 6-8" inches deep and all iffy signals from an area masked by iron, suprisely the AT Gold did Extreamly well in fact I feel the AT will eventually get these masked coins easier than the CTX once the masked Iffy signals start to thin out.

You mentioned low conductive gold signals, The Buffalo nickel I snagged is low conductive and in the gold jewerly range and it was not IDing correctly, In fact was coming in up there high in Indian penny territory but it read deep so I went for it.

One of my buddies was using his CTX when I was using the AT Gold, he's a fantastic hunter and he dug 7 old coins to my 5 with the AT Gold. However, he also hunted longer 2-3 hours longer than I did.

The masked weak iffy signals will fool you, but after digging many you'll get accustomed to digging them and they will become a part of your daily routine.

I truly beleive the fast recovery single freq machinee of today have an edge over Minelab Explorers,CTX in iron infested sites including pounded parks were iron masking limits the Explorer line. Of course a user needs to learn single freq extreamly well to get these deep iffy signals, I can honestly say both the AT Pro and AT Gold are fantastic machines, Sure the CTX detects deeper than the AT line but in areas laced with iron the AT Gold has an edge.

Take care,
Paul (Ca)

Found a walking liberty half dollar yesterday morning. Was using CTX but batteries went dead. Took out the pro immediate VDI of 93, solid as a rock both ways. 3" down popped out the walker with my probe. No digger needed. Don't get much better than that.
