Gold, Silver, Sapphires, SEVEN Rings!!!

Well, I hit the wet sand and shallow water at low tide for about 5 hours from a little after midnight to a little after AM. Yes, it's sanded in. And there wasn't much clad, except for a little field of it that I hit in the high wet sand beneath a healthy cut. But there WERE some things in the water. And I spent more time in the water (and deeper) than I ever have before due to the fact that the surf was breaking pretty far out and the waves were minimal. So I was hitting the trough and at one point was even chest deep. Not for long, but long enough to submerge my recently added shaft-mounted LED light, which suffered no ill effects and took on no water...very cool!

I managed to land a few keepers and had a great time. I only ran into one other hinter...Darren from Chesapeake, with his new Excal. I know he hunted some more after I saw him for the last time, so he may have done more but I saw that he had a nice 14K mens "comfort" band with fettering around the edges...nice ring!

Anyway, here's my "nut". :wiggle:

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to add...my wife's birthday is on the 9th of this month and her birthstone is Sapphire...she loves the ring. So I'll be getting it sized.

Wow Mike, you crushed it this morning !!

That ring with the "Unknown" stone looks to be kinda old......
Nice job, I hit it yesterday morning with a little clad and not much else. We have a lot of North-East wind starting today, so who knows!

Congrats bro!

Thanks Rich. Yeah, that ring, the bracelet, and the gold/silver mix ring WERE deep and the silver had that "chocolate" coating on them that they only get after YEARS down there. I had to put all three in the electrolysis tank to get them cleaned up. I should have taken a "before" pic but I was tired.

I hope you're right about the winds and tides. It would be nice to see some new cuts. I'll be out there again tonight. Time to charge that battery...this was my 3rd hunt on it. Later...

Found a silver ring in Hawaii with an 18kt insert. Thought it strange but it is a unique looking ring. You always seem to find the nice stuff Mike. Love your friend who guards and displays your finds for you. Great stuff.

Thanks Gord. Yeah, I found a 14K yellow and white like that last summer but this would be my first 14K/925. It IS attractive...maybe has a little more character than straight yellow or white. Even if it is less valuable. I don't sell too many anyway and when I do, it's mostly to people at work and I give them the "Crazy Eddie" price.

I found old Ben Grimm one night while detecting on the beach. I started to toss him up in the dry sand, but for some reason put him in my pocket...he looked pretty cool and the movie had just come out. So I toted him around all night. I ended up finding a few rings and when I got home I was looking for some way to display them, as usual. And there was Ben, with his hands open...grinning at me. And that's been his job ever since. It keeps him out of the recycle bin. ;)

Awesome finds as always Mike. Hoping to hit the water myself in the next day or two. Hope I do half as good.

Gary

Hey, Mike! I love that Sapphire ring! I would do the "happy dance" if I found that one in my scoop! And that silver and gold ring is pretty awesome, too. Good for you. NICE finds!!!!

Well it sure wasn't last night. I went from "Riches to rags" overnight. I got a fair little pile of clad and that was it. So from one night to the next, there IS a lot of movement going on. It's just not all GOOD movement. But all it takes is ONE nice find to "make" and night, right?

Well, the gas prices have seen to that. My trip for the week of the 19th is cancelled. But the last time I came down and hunted SOuth Beach, I didn't do very well at all. I guess there's something to be said for the fact that we all know OUR beaches the best. But as they say on Big Brother "You are safe..."
