nice finds scully. i found a cell phone and i called a number it had in it to make a long story short i sent it home and they sent me 20 buks. cant beat that. i hope soon i can post some gold from the water.

The ring is a very cool Catholic item. The central inscription,
"sicut lilium inter spinas" = As the lily among thorns.
Its from the Song of Song's, the Book of Solomon, CH 2. verse 2 and refers to the believer in the love of Christ in the modern world.
The "BVM" means Blessed Virgin Mary.

As near as I can tell, it is a signet ring of 'The Militia of the Immaculata' (MI), (Or the Knights of the Immaculate Conception), a worldwide evangelization movement founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe in 1917 that encourages total consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a means of spiritual renewal for individuals and society.

We downplay, disregard and even ostracize Catholicisim in our rush to New Age things, but in the past it was a dominant force of religion in the world and in America. There were literally hundreds of socities and groups devoted to one thing or another within the Cathlic Church's tradition. This was in a time when people were more religious than now and didn't have video games, malls or cell phones to occupy their minds.

Very neat find. Now that would go on my hand and be worn proudly. I would likely consecrate myself to the MI if I were to find it. Ill buy it if you want to sell it.
