Gold settings

JAN1

Active member
Hi everyone !
Has anyone used either of the Gold settings on the 800 on their beaches and if so what settings are they using. Not been out for ages because of lockdown and then thousands of tourists on staycations jamming up the county but seems to be calming down this week as a lot of children are now back at school so I shall start detecting again soon.
Thanks in advance.

The Gold modes on the Equinox are specifically for gold prospecting and maybe relic hunting for maximum depth. They will not give you any advantage at most saltwater beaches over the Beach modes except in the really dry sand. The Gold modes are 1 tone VCO audio only so no iron grunt or low iron tone. You can use a little iron discrimination and iron bias to break up the audio on iron targets. They are not optimized for salt ground balancing and will not automatically adjust to wet black sand like the Beach modes will. The Gold modes will do very well on tiny micro gold jewelry AND any tiny bit of metal and I mean so tiny that a handheld pinpointer won't react to them. They will not help identify larger gold targets better than the Park, Field and Beach modes.

Thanks for that, a friend of mine uses gold settings on beaches but I tried it once and thought it was not very good.

I don't have any experience with salt water but from what I've heard people in salt water should be using beach modes..... Like I said I don't have first hand experience.... Just passing on what I've heard.
