Gold Rings

For those of you who have tested with or found gold rings on your F75, what VID numbers were you seeing? Were they consistent throughout the 360 degree swing? Did the ring pinpoint like a penny? Any other tips on recognizing them?

Mine rang in as a nickle at VDI # 31. It was a thin yellow gold man's ring and gave a good signal in all directions. It was one inch deep.

keep on diggin'

I've found 5 thus far, 3 white gold and 2 yellow gold. 4 of the 5 id'ed as a nickel, 30-31 and were repeatable from all directions. The one yellow gold large class ring bounced from 55 to 71. However, in the same clod was a clad dime. Upon removing the dime I set the clod back in the hole and the ring still id'ed at 55. I've been wondering if white gold id's closer to a nickel??? I tested 7-8 gold rings we have and the smaller ladies band tested right around #31 and solid. The Two larger ones and my mans wedding band IDed at 55 and pretty solid also all aorund. Hope this helps.

size 7 gold band and small gold band with a diamond id at 21-23.

a gold ring with the shank broken came up between 17-21 jumping about as I swept over the poor quality gold ring

Gold rings, depending on size, heft, and composition, can read anywhere from iron to silver. White gold has more nickel in it and will typically read low. Rose gold has more copper in it and it will read very high. Lower caret gold, such as 10K, has more non-gold metal in it and usually reads higher. Broken bands can read low as well. The only consistancy is rings will almost always read strong and repeatable, and the numbers will not jump around much, if at all. If you get a target in the pop top range, and its a very stable ID and repeatable, you really should dig it. Pop tops and tabs will vary and the ID numbers will normally jump around if you alternate your swing pattern over them. In that regard, the junk is a little more "iffy" than a gold ring.
