Gold Rings

Can anyone help me out here?I would like to know what would be the best settings to detect standard 10K gold rings with the V3 and stock coil.
I planted a wedding band down 6 inches ,swept it with the machine and got just a sputting with no VDI number. That was in the coin search program.
I tried other programs,eg; coin/jewelry,hi pro but still no luck.I realize the ground condition could be a factor, but right now ,but I'm just looking for a starting point here.

Coin and Jewelry and Hi Pro should not have a problem seeing the ring. Did you bury in it clean ground and ground balance properly? Try RX gain at a higher level if you can. Can you detect the ring in an air test and how far away does it detect it? Sometimes you just have to tweak the detector to your conditions.

I am now picking up the ring, but I had to go into the discrim mode and lower the freq. level all the way down
I tried the hi-pro and the machine just went berzerk.Tried higher RX gain, but it made the machine unstable.
There seems to be a very fine line where you can adjust the settings so the V3 will operate properly and smoothly,
the trick is finding the area of modes and settings!

It sounds like you have a good test target to go by, now you can work on the different filter settings too and see what works best.......

Why would you "Try higher RX"???

Jerry

I tried the Higher RX in the coin/jewelry program, should have mentioned this.I used the hi-pro with the reg. settings,no changes.

Zoom in on the sensitivity live control, increase the Discrim level AND the All Metal level to add depth. The RX is good for adjisting for EMI interference. In that same screen, look at the right side under Probe and it will give you a guideline for the best RX gain for your ground conditions. It can be on the conservative side, so you might be able to go even higher, if conditions allow. I was dissappointed in the depth when I first got mine until I increased the Disc. and All Metal settings. HOpe that helps.

Hi Butch........Regards the highlighted part of your last post.....

I think you meant to say that you lowered the Accept discrim levels....???????????......No?

No,I went into the discmination menu and lowered the frequency down to 5.0 hrz band. This certainly made a difference.
I am going to try out the advice JimmyK gave me.I will get back with the results. Thanks guys!

Well...I just raised the discrm and all metal levels and bang!I'm now getting a clear loud reading on the buried ring, much better than before.Isn't it great
to have this forum on the go,where experienced people can share their wealth of knowledge.I probley would have figured it out eventually, but you guys
saved me a lot of tinkering. The analize screen is still showing the ring with a jagged pattern, almost the same as you would get with iron.kinda odd?

When I am searching is a pattern like "Coin and jewelry" does the AM increase depth while hunting or just when I pinpoint? Which affects analize? One or both?

Thanks,

Julien

I find that it does increase the depth slightly.I cannot see any difference of effect on the analize mode.

Unless you are using coin and jewelry in mixed mode, you only use All Metal in pinpoint J. I think Analyze is also Motion mode only too.
