Gold rings -V- pull tabs

OK you helped me find the nickles, now I need help finding gold. I have taken several rings out & tested then to try to come up with a plan. For the most part they bounce around 27 to 47 and I'm not 100% sure but I think that when I push the trigger forward (in Relic mode) most tabs become scratchy or disappear while the rings still sound. I even thought about starting a book on each pull tab to see what the constant is for the different shapes. Before I try rounding up all the different types of tabs I thought I would see if there is anyone out there that has come up with a better approach.

What do you do?

I just dig and hope for the best!!...... Gold will show up at several different VDI # 's

I have found gold rings from 8 to 57. The trigger forward only works on the older style tabs. Rings and tabs sound the same to me. Like Bob said you have to dig to know. Rob

Dig, dig, dig. That's what one does to find the gold rings. I have found a tiny child's ring with a VDI of only 6. It was a solid hit. I have noticed that gold rings do hit "hard" and solid. My last gold ring was down 6" if not more and it was still a solid hit. But when finding broken chains, bracelets, etc. it could be even lower and sometimes in the minus range. Did I say, Dig, dig, dig?. Sorry, but there's not a 100% sure tale sign if it's a gold ring in the ground or a stinkin' pull-tab. Sure wish it would be that easy, but then there goes the fun of the hunt. HH to all, Nancy

I don't know if the rings are all gone or if I'm just looking in the wrong places, I have hunted parks, football, soccer & baseball fields and have not found one gold ring. I have found several silver & copper rings though so I guess that's better that none at all. Oh and I forgot about the thousands of those lovely tabs that I found.

Foil, nickel, tabs and gold rings. They are all the same. Your eyes will be you very best discriminator in determining a gold ring from a tab.

Bula are you finding nickles? If you are just be patient and a gold ring will pop up when you least expect it. Oh ya keep digging those pulltabs. HH Dennis in Idaho

Bula, you probably haven't done anything wrong. You just haven't put the coil over a ring. My last 3 gold rings were in a grassy area 40x30 yards wide. It was at the high school football field between the grand stands, concession stand, and toilets. I only got half the area covered before it snowed. Location, location, location. Rob

In one of the Whites books, there was a story of a very renowned "old timer" being asked how he did so dang well with his volume of quality finds. His sage words were..."Find the junkiest spots and dig it all!". Can't tell you how many times, remembering those words, has seen me through to good finds. (How much stuff have I missed, when I've chosen to "play the odds", and blow through an area?) Hate thinking about it! Keep a diggin'. Luck, choice of site and good old fashion work will get you there. You got da fire!

If you're finding those pull-tabs, you'll find gold if it's there. Just like Rob said, "Location location location". Try to picture where people would gather, play, etc. Even on paths in the woods. Sometimes off the path is a treasure waiting to be found. Good luck and HH, Nancy

Wise "old timer" teacher and a wiser student......
