What would be a good setting on a vaq. for gold rings???

I know that I am passing up gold , I run about one notch below nickle. is that to high??

thanks

arthur

I would say anything above the bottom of foil.....is probably going to make you miss some of the gold rings....

Much of the gold I've found has been earring and small pendant type things that are in the low foil range. Chains, when detectable in discriminate mode, can be iron to low foil range; frequently need all-metal to get a chain unless there is a pendant still on it. Small gold rings have been mid-foil. Bigger rings can get into the nickle then into the tab range. I've read of big men's class rings being into the zinc penny range, but I have not yet found one that high up on the conductivity scale.

So ... I'd say LittleJohn's assessment is pretty spot on for rings.
Cheers,
tvr

when i'm looking for gold jewelry i run just above iron.

I thought I was running to high up the range,,,thanks for the advice everyone I will cutter back and try that !!!

thanks

if you want gold set the disc just high enough to knock out the small iron. you're gonna dig alot of junk but in the long run it will pay off.

I say if you're digging foil gum wrappers or foil anything you're set to find gold. dig everything! Now the Golden Umax has a distinct sound on foil and pulltabs towards the end of your sweep it will be broken sounding on the edges of the beep and a gold ring will beep loud and clear! Like I saifds dig everything!

i laid my son's wedding band on its side flat on the ground....read easily at the 5 cent mark. propped it upright and had to almost go to iron to get a reading. in all metal (am) mode, no problem at all! i tend to set my discrimination just before the 5 cent mark, then while hunting i hold the red button (pinpoint) knob down all the time. i'm technically hunting in all metal. dan in so cal
