Was hunting today at a 1857 house, whos the original owners name was JOAB MERSHON. I found this ring with a J engraved on the top, its very heavy ring but no gold stamp on it, but im sure its gold because of the weight, and the engraving is very weird, i guess i need to take it to a jewlery shop to find out. it was eight inches down and i about gave up thank god for a pinpointer. thanks for looking happy hunting to all bryan

Hi Bryan, That's an old ring. It looks like it's homemade. Congratulations with the hunt. Hopefully you'll be able to find out if it's gold or not. Is there any living relation still there? Maybe they might have some old photos with someone wearing that ring. Now wouldn't that be awesome!!!! Keep us posted and glad to see you here! HH, Nancy

Nice ring! Yes, pinpointers are great.
