Gold Ring Readings Question

Waterman

Member
My X-Terra 70 is in the mail from my dealer so have not had a chance to play around with it as far as Gold ring readings. I know that Gold rings can pretty much read foil, nickel, tab, pull-tab and perhaps a high coin reading on occasion, my question is has anyone set up a chart showing the digital numbers that they find most of their Gold rings at,,,ie 2,4,6 etc., etc.? Also is a person able to do the coil wiggle over foil to see if it breaks up or stays solid which could be a good indicator of being a Gold item & not foil? I will dig the junk to find the Gold :)It's just that curious minds need to know:)

Here are links to a couple posts I made here months ago. Rings can read all over the map! It depends on the size, composition, angle, soil, coil, conditions etc. I base my decision to dig on the three consistency theory. When I am passing the coil over the target from multiple directions, if the sound is consistent, the predetermined location of the target remains consistent and the TID is somewhat consistent, I dig! Wateman,

On my X-Terra 70, Nickels come in around 12, Zinc Pennies come in around 30, Copper Pennies and Dimes come in around 38, Quarters come in around 42. Halves and Dollars above that.

The Gold rings that I have found have come in from 4 up to around 18. A really big one will come in even higher. The one that I found that came in at a 4 was a tiny 14K baby ring. I have found several 14K white gold and thin yellow gold rings that registered in the 6, 8, and 10 range.

If you really want to find all the gold rings and jewelry you have to dig everything above iron. That means digging foil, lead, pull tabs aluminum screw caps, mower chopped up pop cans, brass keys and just about all the junk except small iron. It does get a little tiring but that is what I do and it really pays off.

God Bless,

I think Jackpine Savage got a large mens ring that hit at 28. Now figuring the resolution that the X70 has between 0(zero) and 30, if Sq tabs are making you crazy, notching out 16-18 still eliminates only a few gold rings at best percentage wise. That resolution spread between iron and zinc makes the X70 an excellent jewelry hunter.

Likewise for quick hunts, like after work if you want to cherry pick for gold, notching all out except for -2 to +30 and then maybe Sq tabs allows you to maximize territory coverage. One of the very convenient features of the X -machines often overlooked is the instantaneous rejection of unwanted items. No searching through menus, just wave the object in front of the coil and push Accept/Reject, no fuss, no muss. This is also handy for use at different sites where severe soil conditions may cause a target ID shift. Place the offending object back on the ground and adapt the new junk target ID instantly.

The only difference would be that the x-50 uses 3 digit notch segments and the X-70 uses 2 digit notch segments. If you look at the coin chart I have posted, you can get a comparison of what any differences might be. HH Randy

Between you & Digger I'm certain the X-Terra 70 will find alot of Gold jewelry this summer, Thanks again:thumbup::canadaflag:

Thats funny Smitty II , in my soil the copper penny comes in at 30 and the zincs come in from 32 to 38.
Strange how location can make a difference.
Happy hunting
