I got my AT Pro late this afternoon so I didn't get to spend a lot of time with it. As soon as I got it together I headed for the river to try it out on some bedrock crevices. First let me say
that Garret made a real nice package with all the extras they give you with the AT Gold. The only thing they missed was a good plastic scoop.
The area I hunt is mostly Granite and Schist bedrock. I hunt cracks in the bedrock in the river beds. The gold is very small, the biggest nugget I have fond weighs 10 grains. The area has a lot of iron and black sand, and lots of hot rocks. I did some air test with the nugget that is on the card in the pic. The nugget is thin and the edges are not solid I would think it weighs 3to5 grains.
Max depth in all metal was about 3". I started gb the detector my ground ranged from a low of 61 to a high of 93 the only way I could keep a clean threshold was to run the sens. at about 1/2 anything above that and it was just to unstable. When I did get up on solid granite I could add another bar or two to the sens. and the threshold would stay stable, but anything over the gravel was a crap shoot. I ended up checking gb about every 10'. This is a noisy machine and it will take some time to get used to it. I did try the 2 disc patterns on my test nugget and it didnt pic it up. I picked one outcrop in the river to do my testing and I started hitting all the cracks on this 30'x30' granite rock. I had lots of targets, too many to dig in the short time I had. I dug about a dozen just to see what it was hitting on. All my targets were lead or copper. Id numbers were all over the place with nothing being consistant not even on my test nugget. I did throw a dime on the ground just to see what it would do. It nailed the dime with a 81.
Since there is no water in the Llano river I didn't get it wet. I will read the manual tonight to see if I can pick up some of the detectors tricks. I will hold my opinion on this GOLD machine until I get a few more hours on it.
