Gold, but the research from the Waltham Watch company stated that most early watches where 10k

Nice find, I dug a pocket watch and after opening it up I was able to get a model number the manufacturer was on the faceplate, with this information there is a company websight where I could put in a cereal number it would give you a year of manufacture. Good luck with reasearch
 
I will, where did you get that bottle cap with the detectorist??
 
Somebody was very unhappy when they realized they had lost that. Might have been the only thing to show for 50 yrs of working.
 
That could be very true, Well at least the watch is getting sunlight and a good new home.
