Gold occurrence

G'day guys, just had a thought as I was driving past some known old abandoned gold fields around cairns.
How is it that gold can be found on one side of a mountain (western) and not found on the other side (eastern). Is it a simple case of the old timers not looking which I believe to be highly unlikely or would it be to do with fault lines and pressures and temps and
Such. I know from experience that the same minerals ( quartz, ironstone, granite) are found on both sides.
Cheers, keith

Gold occurs in deposits of limited extent. If it did not stop somewhere it would be everywhere!

The geology changed from one side of the mountain to the other. That is actually more common than you might think and so gold being on one side of a mountain and not another is quite normal. That said, gold being on one side is sure a good reason to give the other side all the attention possible before giving up. The old timers missed stuff, or maybe there was gold but just not enough for them. But enough for you!

Thanks steve, I've been cruising Around a few of the hills lately and picked a few little specks in the pan but not enough to get the detector excited! I'm about to move to the heart of the eastern goldfields- Kalgoorlie, so hopefully my gold finding luck will change!!
Cheers, Keith

Great attitude as just keep up the prospecting and mining is sure to follow. The old adage of Gold is where ya find it is indeed vexing at times especially in OZ as you have pretty sedintary gold-wind,rain and flood dispersion is not like our glacier and other disposition types. OZ is on my bucket list but never had the pleasure, just read and my relatives spent many a year there. Read up on the Welcome Home Stranger nugget mass as our family has had numerous goldnutz for many generations-party on and tons a au 2 u 2-John
