Gold Numbers WOW!

Have been wanting to run soem gold coins under the coil to see how much I may be or have missed. WOW is the only thing I can say... I know gold numbers are all over the place. I generally dig anything around a nickle 12-13 or so. Also, I generally dig anything over 41. Well heres the list of the scans. MAy make you think about digging those middle numbers also.

1g Credit Suisse 12/26
1g Panda 12/31
1/10 Panda 12/40
1/20 Panda 12/34
Cinco Peso 12/21
DOs Peso 12/11
1854 $1 12/09
$2.50 Indian 12/22
1853 $2.50 12/21
1907 $5 12/31
1897 $10 12/37
1890 $20 12/42Of all the numbers above, I think I would have only dug the $20/

I scanned osme silver pieces also:

5oz bullion 12/38
1oz bullion 12/37
Thought these would be in the high 40's.
Anyway, I think I will change my ways a little, especially in pre 1900's spots!
Take care and hope this helps some diggers.

Well went out to one of my local 1800's houses to dig those tones; did so with no prevail! I did however try the 6" coil for the first time. Managed to pop a 58 roosie, under the vegetation that was not accessable during the warm months. Anyway, froze my @$$ off and will again dig the numbers abpove on my next hunt.. HH , Mike

So generally speaking, these TID numbers vary greatly. My question then is, why would a 1/10 Panda be at a 12/40 when a clad lincoln penny be at a 12/39? What is Minelab's thinking here when creating these numbers? Shouldn't there be a range for gold, copper, silver, etc that are considerably different??? A bit confusing to me.

My first and only gold with the CTX so far is a 5gm ring that rang up at 12/21 right in the pull tab range. I actually look forward to some of those pull tab range numbers now cause it just might be gold. I generally dig everything over iron.

Daytona, as you can see from thr numbers, Gold is all over the place, even with the same percentage consistancy. In fact, I scanned over a 100 gold 14K rings last year and saw a very wide range of numbers. The difference is the filler metal added to bring the karat content down. Some day, there will be an algorithym or more advanced technology that will identify gold. For now, we must dig the pultab ranges. HH Mike

I want to go looking for gold nuggets soon, so yesterday I tested some of my detector's ( including my newest one - ctx 3030) to see how they would work on gold nuggets,( and coins and rings). With the 3030 on 1/20, 1/10, and 1 oz 22k and 24k coins I got identical numbers as mcb613. On two plain simple gold rings I got numbers near 12-10, On a few plain simple silver rings I got numbers in the 12-30's. What surprised me was on the 1/2 gram, 7 gram, and 17 gram gold nuggets I would get a different number on each swing - from below 12-20 to above 12-40. I am guessing this might be from the nuggets irregular shape. I am thinking irregular shaped gold rings might also throw different numbers depending on how it is sitting,
