That's right folks, this nugget was found in a heavily hunted play area in the middle of the city. I had decided to kill a couple hours at sunrise, I had searched this spot before with my previous detector and came away with a grand total of 1 quarter and a couple pennies. Figuring I'd get a little air and exercise and not much more. That's an assumption I won't make again. The park has 5 small play areas averaging around 200 sq. ft. ea. The very first hit I got was the nugget. It gave a nickel/ring (low 20's VDI) in one direction and a ring pull-tab ( 30-32 VDI) in the other. 5" down I figured it was trash but I was in sand and feeling fresh so I dug it. The nugget slipped through my sifter and sunk so deep in the loose, slightly damp sand that I was having difficulty locating it again and decided it was probably trash and walked away. A minute later something made me go back and find whatever was hiding and I eventually had a handful of sand with the nugget. The funny part is the light was still so low and my eyes aren't what they once were so I couldn't tell what I had. I could feel the heft and solidness of the object so I figured it was probably a pendant of some sort, put it in in my pocket and started swinging my coil again. After a 2 hr. hunt I was feeling pretty good as I had found 2 pieces of silver along with $ 1.17 in clad and some other fun finds. When I was cleaning up to leave I emptied my pocket and there in the bright sunlight was my first gold nugget ! I had totally forgotten about it ! It weighs out at just over 2.5 g. It has a hole towards the narrow end so I guess someone had it on a necklace at one time. I was in C/J mode with the 6x10 DD. Sensitivity was maxed out and the disc was at 2. 1 gold and 2 silvers with only 1 pull-tab ? I'll take that ratio any day. Enjoy.
