So I'm out hunting the hills in a spot where I have found some 1870s dimes, injuns, a shield nickle and a few silvers along with some good old mining days stuff. Its very slow and hard hunting but after about 2 hours I get a good solid 4 inch deep hit (not much is deep in this spot as it sits on rocks) I get excited and start scraping the rocks and dirt away...I see...its a ... a ...I see a GOLD COIN ! A GOLD COIN!!!! I reach down and pull it out WOOOHAH! I check the date...wait a minute I don't recognize this. What the heck is this...its a FRENCH 1965 20 cent piece. Talk about disappointment. Why the heck did Frenchy get all the way up here on this hill and leave me this coin that looks to me like a gold coin? (was he detecting?)
I don't even want to post a pic I'm so put out with that.
I came away with one 1942 wheaty, a bus token from the 40s and forty two cents in newer change from the hikers.
Disappointed, but I'll be back to wage another attempt soon as I love hunting this particular forest, nice and cool, steep and rocky, nobody but me and my E trac...and a few hidden treasures.
Hope one of us finds a Gold Coin soon and makes up for that!!!! (maybe me)
good-luck
