GOLD NEAR FORT PAINE,ALA?

Going to spend some time near fort Desoto State park and was wondering the nearest place to pan or look for nuggets,preferably detect for nuggets.thanks,sam in mississippi.
 
Sam, if you are still planning a trip to Alabama, try the Alabama Gold Camp in Lineville, Al. Very friendly staff and a large area to search. There was supposed to be an old Indian camp on the property. I have been there a couple of time and enjoyed it greatly. Try joining GPAA: (Gold Prospectors Association of America). For the money you can't beat it for the info if nothing else. Happy Hunting
