Gold jewelry hunting questions

Not necessarily a strict Tesoro question, but I like and trust the feedback on this forum so figured Id start here...

For you land jewelry hunters, do you find more jewelry on the sidelines of athletic fields, or on the fields themselves?

Does your trash to treasure ratio get better in on the fields or not?

Do you like modern parks or older parks for jewelry?

I have my theories but they are just that. Here is what Im thinking--

At first I thought that the field itself would be more productive as this is where the activity is taking place that might cause a ring or chain to fall to the ground. On the other hand, most players take their jewelry off beforehand and might lose it when they retrieve their towel or warm-up jacket where they placed the item on the sidelines.

Im also wondering how much valuable jewelry is worn by little kids, many of them boys, while playing on the fields. Meanwhile, the mothers and fathers are on the sidelines putting sun block on their children, getting their Gatorade out of the cooler, handing them equipment, etc. More chance that they lose a ring?...

Fields have less trash in my expereince but they are also much bigger than the sidelines and take much more time to cover.

Lots of clad on the sidelines, not so much in the fields. When jewelry hunting , clad is a nice distraction, but not really important to me.

Modern parks in my area also have much, much less trash, but perhaps older fields hold much, much more jewelry becaue of time and because its hiding in the trash. On the other hand, modern parks around here are frequented by folks who have much more valuable jewelry than did most people 50 years ago, at least in my town.

So what do you fellow jewelry hunters concentrate on? Do you grid the entire field, or hit the sidelines, or both? Do you hit new parks or old ones, or both? Why?

I like parks with older pull-tabs and deeper aluminum trash. That means that the previous hunters haven't done the due diligence for gold and that the potential exists for good stuff. The usually means most parks in my area - not everyone is wacko nutzo like me, I guess.

I have similar luck with gold on the sidelines or the field. The stuff on the sidelines can be more impressive, though. Lots more trash on the sidelines, especially near vendor booths.

Age doesn't matter for a gold hunter. All you want is grass and as much traffic as possible for as long as possible. Try to get back to the 80s or 90s anyhow - there were a lot of big, flashy necklaces and stuff from those eras (which continue to elude me).

As for areas to concentrate on, any place where gloves might come off is a good start. Gloves really help rings get lost.

My best luck has been in the outfields of softball fields. Even more specific, softball fields for grown men who drink a lot of beer while playing...lol. Yes, we have many leagues around here where adults get together, hit the draft beer, and play softball. My theory is this: Men often remove their glove to adjust their hats while being out there. 90% of them wear rings AND catchers glove on their left hand. Off comes the sweaty glove, ring falls off, glove goes back on, along comes IDXpro....hahaha....

Second best luck would be sidelines. Just last week I found a silver necklace with 3 charms, two silver rings, a junk mood ring, and a lighter all together at the very corner of a soccer field about a foot from the white painted line. My guess is someone took them all off and maybe placed them on a jacket or shirt and forgot about them when they left.

I like new parks better. Not as many deep pull tabs. The sports drink foil caps are annoying but easier to disc than a deep pulltab, especially with the Outlaw. The Outlaw has a little issue with deep pulltabs.

Try going to adult soccer fields. The kind that maybe belong to sports bars. A lot of those adult soccer players are from many different nationalities. A lot of the Brazilian, Spanish, and Portuguese players really like their bling. They wear bling no matter what they are doing.

Top, IDX-- excellent advise!! thanks a bunch. I like the thinking about old trash = gold still there. I also could not figure out if I wanted to search baseball outfields or not, but now its appears there is good reason to. Since Im using the Outlaw for some of this hunting, I too like the newer parks with it. Those darn beaver tails sound off like a silver dollar sometimes...not that I'd know what a silver dollar sounds off like..yet. Thanks again for the input.

I'm really curious how you like the F5 Mojo. If the F2 is as good as it is, the 5 must be slamming!

Also, have you downloaded the F5 tips and tricks pdf? Sven has posted in the past and it's a must have. I have it and can send it to you.

I hope Tesoro fans will forgive me for responding in this post but--I am absolutely loving the F5. The multiple tones are great-- Id love to have them on the Outlaw--especially the nickel/gold tone! Target separation seems pretty nice too, but I havent yet gotten a real feel for how it does with masking. I am even pleasantly surprised at the percentage of time the I.D. is correct or at least useful for target ID (jumpy numbers over large range vs. solid numbers in a small range). Depth is good so far but Im using it in areas where I dont expect to go deep for targets. The depth meter is not too accurate, but I dont really care. Another downside is its a bit more chatty than my tesoros. I love the knobs and the rest of the interface, but I wish the knobs were as nice as the tesoros. Fishers' knobs are rubbery plastic. I also bump them out of position often when pinpointing. All in all, worth every penny. I wanted to try a machine with a display and multiple tones also wanted to venture into jewelry hunting and the F5 seemed a solid choice. I also wanted to try a different brand-- I really love the tesoros I have, but variety is the spice of life, no?

yup.I read that about 10 times through before I bought the sucker. I've got pages dog-earred all over that document! Just like I watched all of 53Silver's videos about tem times before getting the Outlaw. I swear there is no better (or worse!) marketing for detectors than these forums.

Im glad you like it Mojo. I imagine the four tones are the same as the f2 and if so its great. Im not brand loyal so its cool with me you posting it here. One thing f series are fantastic at is knowing when iron is iron!!! Its that good. enjoy my friend...

I hunt both sidelines and field. I like soccer fields and have had lots of luck especially near goal ends. The fields themselves don't have a lot of trash, the sidelines will. Lots of hispanic young men play in leagues close to where I live and they are near semi pro players in talent. Some fairly large crowds show up to watch them as well as the youngsters. Don't forget to check where women sports are held and the parking lots that are gravel and grass..I like the 8X9 coil on the Vaquero in these places. HH

Thank you Cal, I has also been wondering if the goal ends would be more producitve because of the concentrated action. I need to start a recon mission on the fileds to find out when the adults play and where the biggest crowds are...

Excellent really well thought out informative replies from everybody that responded to your question! :clapping: Mojo, if you go and read REVIER's posts, he does a great job gold hunting and thinking about locations...It truly is amazing how much gold (and silver) is laying in the ground within a few miles of your house...Yeah, recon those adult gamers fields...follow the stroller tracks in the grass, work the natural pathways from the fields to the parking areas...man, it could be just about anywhere, so a person has to get good and fast on the gold signals. I read Craigslist for ideas as to where gold is lost too...just to sort of get an idea...most of it posted is lost in parking lots and bathrooms, of course at the beach, but for purposes of this conversation we are talking dirt.
I'm gonna go out today in search of dirt gold at the sports areas..Good Luck to you and all!

I steer clear of the field. There are enough injuries in soccer for me to potentially cause another from a loose plug. No matter how hard you stomp it down it is not going to be the same. Maybe in the off season would be better. JMO

Very good point King. Just this week I was out looking around a soccer field and saw another detectorist out there. I was roaming the sidelines of th field next to him and found a poorly dug/filled hole right on the edge of the out-of-bounds line. I got pretty ticked off because I live in and around towns that have outlawed MDing before because a girl blew out a knee tripping on a elementary school playground by stepping in an unfiled hole. Howeverf, afet closer inspection, this hole was old--so poorly cut the grass was dead-- so I couldnt know ifit ws the guy who was there at the time or not.

The good thing is these parks I search are really new and I rarely have to dig more than an inch or two plug and rarely more than a few inches in diameter.

Stroller tracks!!! Arggh! This post was supposed to help me narrow down where to look, now its expanding!!! Tose are good ideas Mud, Im gonna check them out this weekend.

Any places with physical activity (soccer fields baseball fields) your odds of finding jewelry are pretty good, you still have to dig the junk aluminum, just no way around it.
