It was hotter than the dickens today, but I toughed it out for about 5 hours and I'm glad I did. The find of the day was a whopper of a college class ring that weighs almost 27 grams. It does have a name in it and I'm trying to track down the owner. There's a small diamond in it, as well, and it's 14K. It's an expensive ring and I'm sure he'll want it back. Hopefully I'll be able to find him, but I'm almost positive he doesn't live in this area anymore. I'll update the post if I'm able to get it back to him. I also found a couple of Rosies, a few wheats, some metal coins that look like they were part of a series on dinosaurs (there's a picture of the dinosaur on one side and facts about it on the other...they're about the size of a half dollar), a woman's Timex watch and part of a Distinguished Flying Cross medal. I love days like today because the broad variety keeps things interesting and helps me focus when I'd rather be sitting in some air conditioning. Here's some photos.

Thanks for looking and I hope you had a successful day if you went out.

Love that gold ring and the silver - but that DFC does it for me - someone had to risk their life to get that! Nice, nice finds.

What a fatty!

probably about $700.00 melt value.

$642 with an online calculator. I really want to get it back to the owner though. Had some luck yesterday. I'm waiting for him to contact me.

Well, against all odds, I found the owner of the ring. He is now a Lt Col in the USAF and working at the Pentagon. My buddy that had access to the Air Force global e-mail listings talked to him this morning and gave him my contact information. I haven't personally talked with him yet, but he described the ring to a tee to my buddy so I have no doubt that it's his. It was a gift from his wife when he graduated college and was lost in 2003. I'm sure he'll be excited to have it again.

12-42 in the ground. 12-40 with an air test. There were two clad dimes about 5 inches from it when it was in the ground.

Would have been nice to cash it in, but the guy sent me an email last night and he got it in the mail yesterday. He's pretty stoked to have it back, so that makes me feel better. $640 would have gone a long ways toward the cost of the CTX though.
