Over the years I've made many exciting finds whilst metal detecting in the U.K, and I'm fortunate to live in the part of the world where every field contains a little bit of history. This was my biggest find so far and is now on show in a local museum. The gold hoard dated back to the Middle Bronze Age which in Britain was about 1400 B.C. The hoard had been spread by recent ploughing and had scattered the item over quite a large area and took several months to find.
The Archaeologists were called in the excavate the site and I was asked to help in the rescue dig. I was using a DFX and a XLT at the time, and the amazing thing was the XLT couldn't locate any of it, because it was running on 6.5 kHz, where the DFX was running in all metal on 15 kHz. So I guess you need a fairly high frequency to find gold. Here is the picture of the find and the video I did at the time.
