Gold found with the X-Terra 30 . . .

Not sure if I have posted this before - I know I have on the beach detecting page, but anyway.

I found this lovely ring a couple of weeks back (my 3rd gold of the summer). Turns out to be 22ct with a whopping great Emerald in the middle! Came from a local beach in the wet at about 6 or so inches. Very pleased to say the least. The signal was bouncing around from 16 to 24 and settled on 16 when out of the sand. Starnge thing is I always find that gold signals bounce - is that the smae for everyone else?

Cheers
Neil

I suspect that the gold bounce you're referring to is very much beach related more than anything else unless the depth is contributing too.
I've never found any 22ct gold so can only remark on what I find which is all over the carat and size scale but YES some will really bounce when deep and small adds to the excitement. Most of the gold I find will hit 6, 10 and 12 for the most part and usually hit good on one number.
I did find a pretty chunky 14 ct mens band that bounced 22/24 but it was 8" deep, once out of the ground it hit 32 so go figure that one out.
It was going to get DUG up either way :buds:

Gotta love gold and gemstones. The mens bands I have found with the 70 bounce 2 numbers ie: 22/24 like Mike saw on his. Usually though if you get them centered by X'ing they settle down pretty good, but thats in the water. The fact that yours is an irregular shape compared to a plain band might have something to do with the big bounce you saw.

I don't think it bounced because it is gold. As Tom said, I believe it bounced because of the shape of the ring. I have found that gold coins lock on, just like silver coins. Gold bands don't bounce very much either. But rings with stones or irregular shapes seem to cause the numbers to move around a bit. Just goes to prove that you never know, until you dig it! Again, nice find. HH Randy
