Gold Detector

What is the best Gold detector on the market. ? For the very serious treasure seeker (Price not being an issue)
Which is suitable for soil, cave, and large stone enclosed areas searches

gpx4500 - minelab or infinum - garrett - for large deep gold & theres quite a few high freq vlr detectors for small gold.

I use the Infinium LS and the Fisher Gold bug About 1200.00 for both and I find 3gr nuggets up larger sizes from surface to 2-8". The whites TDI PI is very good as well. The Mine Labs stuff I feel, is way over priced the GPX 4500 is going from 8000.00 to as high as 9800.00 each. 4000's used and abused are going in the 3-5 grand SD's will set you back 2k used and they don't seem to do any better than an Infimium or Whites . If I was 24/7 365 prospector then I may go for the Mine Lab stuff but you sure have to dig a H3ll of a lot gram size nuggets to help pay for one. Just my 2 cents.

If the Compass gold machine was still around that was a good one. THe best was the Tesoro Diablo but impossible to even find a used one.

Well said. The 4500's are insanely expensive. Apparently they can't make enough of them and folks have let their emotions get the better of them. The reality is, that most will never find much gold with them anyway; certainly not enough to justify such crazy prices. While it may be the overall best gold machine, it also represents the worst value for money.

Whites TDI is a better machine than the Garrett Infinium ,Minelab all of there PI units...but the Whites will find pretty much find everything that the minelab will, the price of minelab PIs is going way up, but the most important thing is knowing how to find gold in its natural state!! Most gold is not found as nuggets it is found as flake and flour I just ran my beach box last night picked up about a quarter ounce, ran about a half yard of material, it is flood gold so all of it is in the first 12-18 inches of material.....I usually use my dtector to find all of the heavy material on a river corner lead weights iron bolts and nuts where the biggest concentration lies is where the gold usually is and it is to small for a metal detector to pickup...

I'm from California and did a lot of gold prospecting, every one uses a whites GMT, or fisher gold bug. i had a whites V-SAT. that i did well with in the lower rivers and fields but in the big rivers, there was so much flake gold it was hard to use any detector. find out where you we'll be looking for gold and find out what the locals are using. Some detectors are just not suited for some areas.

Sorry Rick but I have to disagree with you on the statement that the Whites is better than the Infinium. I think they have their use and each has its merits. I use the Infiinum because my claim is on a creek and I hunt the water and find gold in the 1 grain on up to several oz. The TDI will do the same, problem is if you hunt near and in water and it gets wet you will will be with out it for a while when it is back at the Factory being fixed. If all you hunt in the desert where water and rain is not a problem then I think the TDI is very good choice. If I'm on a good patch and it comes a storm, I don't want to leave the gold to hide out while it passes over. Barring a Gully washer and your safety is in question then I stay put to get the gold. I know the desert in the monsoon season can also get torrential rains but they are fewer of them. Don't get me wrong the GPX is great machine but it not that easy to use and I find as much, maybe more gold than my Buddy with his GPX 4500 he paid over 5k for his a while back. With the 8" mono coil and the iron discimination it does it all, in and out of the water, and it is cheaper. 1100. to your door it is hard to beat it. Problem is if you buy a 8000.00 detector and they come out with a better one then the price drop is going to be hard to eat. Remember the Harley Davidson scooter's they where selling for high prices now you can't give them away at any price. I think you need to crawl before you walk, and walk before run. I have done full time mining and it is damn hard work and the mental part is not knowing when or if you will make pay roll this week or if you ever will. that was the hardest for me. The mental stress was killer.I did OK for the year but the days and weeks that go by until you find another pay streak. WOW that is killer.
