Gold detecting in Idaho

I have been invited out to visit my cousin in Idaho this summer. I have currently only used my E-trac since January, but with this mild winter we are having in Pa. I have been out detecting just about everyday. Is the E-trac designed to recover gold nuggets or can someone recommend another detector. My cousin is also considering getting into metal detecting for gold, so could you also recommend a detector for him

Wonderful! I have a very great friend that lives in Salmon...he also happens to have a gold claim...he swings a minelab, I dont know what model, knowing him, its top of the line.
He took me up there two years ago in Aug, since the snow had JUST melted enough to get in there...I got altitude sick, and had a hell of a headache..didn't find any gold with an F70, it was my first year detecting, and I had no idea what I was doing...but I did score a nice very old silver ring and a '26 wheat penny under a great big tree in what had all the signs of a good place to camp.
He backdragged his road, and found enough nuggets to get his teeth fixed. I talked to him just the other day, and he says there is hardly any snow this year, and they expect a big beetle kill on the trees, so the fire season should be really bad this year. Theres definitely gold way up in those mountains, and used to be hundreds if not thousands of people including the Chinese living up in there and working the dirt. Its a 2 hr drive on dirt roads to get up in there...I would not mind camping out up in there and working the gravel for a few weeks. I drove out there from Michigan and had an awesome time.
Keep me posted on your plans and timing...

Holler if you have questions.

Yes- X-terra 705 with gold coil - I think 18k frequency. Standard freq is 7.5k.
