gold detecting/gem mining

Hello,

Has anyone ever been gem hunting or gold panning near the Pine Spruce or Little Switzerland areas of NC? Which mine is better than the rest?

Don't want a salted or enriched hunt as they say. We want to dig and pan straight from the earth.
