I was wondering how many of you guys did manage to find a gold coin.

In the 25 years that I'm using a metaldetector I managed to find 3 gold coins. The oldest one dating back to 300 BC the other 2 are Dutch coins. 1 from the 17th and 1 from the 18th century.

Those are Beautiful coins. Congratulations. No Gold of any kind so far for me. However I have only been doing this for a little over Six Months. Still have a lot to learn and lots of digging to do.

:drool::drool::drool::drool: Amazing finds! Never mind 3 I would be happy with one of those "lifetime finds" Only if those coins could talk.... Thanks for sharing! - Jim

I have been metal detecting since 1962 and have found only one gold coin, a 1911 2 1/2 Dollar Indian Quarter Eagle. I found it with a Garrett Freedom 2 Coin Commander on an old wagon trail leading to a homesite dating back to the mid 1700's. This homesite was located on a bluff overlooking a creek and many, many spectacular finds were made at this location. Sadly, this place has been developed and is now a gated subdivision.

That is one of my goals, have found no gold coins yet in almost 3 years being a THer,but I have found 24 gold coins with ice in them,ie; RINGS with diamonds, HA HA,BUT SOME BEATIFUL COINS AND WHAT A RUSH IT MUST HAVE BEEN. .Looking for the day I can post the ST,GAUDENS $20.00 coin i found. Far and few in between as far as most of us,but again, what you have found ..is.. most or atleast one of my goals as a THer. CONGRATS ON SOME GREAT COINS.

.

One was in a ring so probably doesn't count. The other was in am old amusement park in Utah. The park closed in 1925.

1893CC eagle, only 14000 made and the last of the gold coins from Carson City Nevada

And was in my possession is a double eagle found in Lake St. Clair by a friend that some boater decided to swim with. I was with him when it was found and bought it. So finding one isn't that impossible. The bezel is 14K gold.

My only gold coin find is a 1876 20 Francs found under a grade school playground. It is a newer school and my guess is the coin was there before the school was built........ that's my story and I'm sticking to it.......

Yes finding a gold coin really gives you a big high. I found the oldest coin in England many years ago. Me and an American friend of mine David who's wife is Dutch. They lived in the Netherlands at that time. We attended a detecting rally in the South of England, we went there a couple of days early to do some detecting before the rally started. We were detecting a field and found some Roman coins and some other old artifacts. At the end of the day when we were walking towards the car I got a good signal and dug this gold coin.

For the first couple of minutes we were jumping around.

I found one of the other coins at night. First thought it was a silver coin. Only when I came home a realised it was a gold coin.

Wow. Impressive! I'm still waiting on mine

1851 One Dollar Gold Piece, appeared to be copper overlaid with gold. Worn very heavily. I think it was a counterfeit, about 30 years ago so I don't remember a lot of details... Richard

I found three gold coins & they were all in the same spot, the pawn shop. I have been working on a sopt to hunt this summer that I think might be a good spot to find one with my mxt.

bout 30 yrs tectin and ....zero,0, nada, zilch,squat...number of gold coins found...but I'm still lookin! lol

Spectacular finds! Those are beautiful coins. I've been detecting for about 13 years and specialize in finding jewelry, preferably gold jewelry. A member of the club I know has found 3 gold coins, and another has found 3. 4 of the 6 were found in the fields of England. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome fiind. I found a 1910 2 and a half dollar gold coin a few months ago. It is posted on tbe GT forum here. The coin design was always my favorite, but I never thoought I would find one. HH-Mark

Gold coins were more common in Europe therefore more have been lost over the century's , correct ? And judging by your coins Europe your location . The US is a toddler age wise in comparison to Europe so it's just the law of averages , the older the location and the longer in was populated by people the more coins and valuables are lost . In Europe I'm sure many older coins and artifacts are found daily than in the US .You have some great find's and I your average is way above average compared to gold coin finds by US detector owners . So to me your question need not be asked , less are found here because less were lost due to our country's younger age and the lack of century's of population as in Europe . Congratulations on having so cool gold coins and I hope your lucky enough to add many more . Just don't expect to find them here , not impossible but very scarce indeed ! Happy Trails , Woodstock

Great find. Waiting on my first one. Thanks for Sharing

Yes Woodstock you are right, I live in The Netherlands. Most coins found in the area were I live are between 1600 and 1800.

I have been to The States 15 times on holiday and I talked to several metaldetectorists when I was there, and I have been to Kellyco several times so I know what there is to be found.

I like the Civil War finds you guys are finding, really cool stuff.

Thanks,

Andre
