One dollar gold piece will come in just under nickel, five dollar lower pulltab, Ten dollar screwcap and 20 dollar around a dime..These are only ball park areas and depends how its laying in ground and your mineralization and of course depth plays a part also. Now that we are done with U.S. gold coins moving onto foreign gold coins just about anywhere on the meter. So if one was in a ara where gold coins were possible just might have to dig all...
Same goes for gold rings , but the hotspot is usually below nickel in the foil region where thin womans gold rings with possible nice stones fall.

Thanks Dan, I've proably have past over one and not
knowing.

From the minute one dollar to the large 20 dollar they do hit harder than the trash that mimics them and for lack of better words just gives a pleasant round sound..Nope never found one but have done tests. Perhaps next hunt...Years ago they were a status symbol and many carried one in their pocket at all times so surely many were lost..

Dan I'm sure know that i've pasted over them. Some
times I get a strong belltone on iron but I have
machine in coin mode hunting. Also on bottle cap.
The gold ring I found was strong belltone, and two
bars togther on nickle and pull tab.

Dan, in regards to gold, I use different detectors, but with the garrett i`ve done nuggett hunting an set it at the low end, nickle pull tab setting, to make a test feild take lead sinkers (line sinkers are best) an bury them at different depths. then feild check your detector till it picks up the lead, gold will come in on the same signel.

But if I was would surely buy a nugget machine.Lead sinkers sure will mimic gold but again have dug small and big sinkers which vary greatly on the meter. And of course nuggets can be minute or large so would test some nuggets to give you a ballpark range.
