Gold Coins And A Mini-DD ?

Since I couldn't get out to hunt due to the weather, I decided I would see where some gold coins come in on the MXT. This was with the 6x10 Eclipse in Coin/Jewelry with disc and gain at Preset with a very slight threshold. Ground locked when I turned the machine on and got an 83 ground reading in Prospecting mode. This was indoors and I know the readings probably will/may be different in the dirt.
1871 Liberty $1.00 = 18
1855 Liberty $2.50 = 28
1906 Liberty $5.00 = 50
1893 Liberty $10.00 = 70
I bought a "new" mini-dd from the classifieds. I haven't had a chance to give it a try until today. I wanted to see how it would do on a couple of small nuggets. I wasn't too impressed. I could hardley get any sound from them even nearly touching the coil. These pieces are around 6 to 10 grains. Might be just too small for the MXT, although they did come in better with the 6x10.
I also tried the mini-dd in relic mode to see how it might do on coins. My plan is to use it in an extremely trashy site that has produced well in the past, but the rusted iron is virtually everywhere. You can't find a clean spot at this site. Well, I was barely able to get a change in threshold with a quarter at 4 inches. Is this normal, or did I get taken on this coil?
Thanks, and good hunting,
Otto...

it STINKS!
I can guarantee you that I had much better performance with both the MXT's I owned and with three (3) different Mini DD coils I used. I am talking both the 'depth' on a quarter and response to very small nuggets.
I have stated that I prefer the 5" Excelerator for my applications due to appearance (shape & color), but it matched or bested anything I did with the Mini Double-D's, and I would certainly have the coil, and maybe even the MXT, checked out and brought up to 'spec.'
Mind you I am not saying that it ought to bang out loud on 9" quarters, but it should fair better than a quarter @ 4"!

If I understand you correctly, the mini DD you refer to is the small White's Shooter Eclipse DD coil? Oval shaped and 3 X 6 or 4 X 6, depending on who measures it. If so, you should do much better than 4 inches on a quarter. Depends on the soil and settings, but in my soil of high 50's - low 60's, MXT tweaked to +2, preset disc, it does 6 inches just fine. If the area is real trashy, you have to go slow when running that hot, but it works fine. Not the coverage of the bigger White's Eclipse, but better separation. And separation is what the smaller one is designed to do. If it were mine, I would send it back to where it came from.

Otto, old friend, the pathetic performance you report can be due to either a "dead" DD coil, or, the WRONG version of the DD coil. The correct Eclipse Shooter DD coil for the MXT has the part number "p/n 624-0426" printed on the left side of the label. If it says some other number, that would explain your problem. HH Jim

I get great depth on the mini DD and use in trash
wide open. Does the machine seem to behave properly
with the standard coil? Bad coil, wrong coil, etc.
Hope ya get it worked out, Richard

That must be it. The part number is: 624-0427. The persom I bought it from said it was for an MXT. If it's not, what's it for?
Thanks,
Otto...

I was told by the seller that it was for the DFX/MXT. Now comes the fun part, trying to get my money back. First bad experience on the classified forums. Drat!
Good hunting,

When the Blue Max 'Shooter' coil came out I gave it a try, but I wasn't impressed with the performance on the moderate to faster-sweep models such as the XLT and XL Pro. However, anyone with a Classic ID or Classic IDX (or even a Classic III) could put that coil to use in trash infested sites and be well rewarded for doing so!
I have preferred the 4" Snooper coil on the slow-sweep Classic's for a good decade now, but was favorably impressed with the Blue Max Shooter DD. Might even like it better!
If the coil decal reads "Eclipse" then it's for the MXT & DFX. If it says "Blue Max," then that works on the XLT, XL Pro, Quantums, and Classic III, ID & IDX models.

Yep, it's for the 6.59 machines alright. I'm glad to say the seller and I have already worked it out. I figured something was terribly wrong when I couldn't get a peep with a decent sized nugget, and then barely a sound with a quarter at 4 inches.
Thanks for all the help everyone, and good hunting,
Otto...

you might consider shooting **** or Rick ND and email for a price on a new coil or whatever.
You just might be "amazed" at the price your shot.
I bought a 10" DD from **** and got a fantastic buy for the coil, cover and lower rod. BLEW Kellyco away.
HH,
Johnny B
