Gold Coin Member?

So I headed off to a spot I haven't hunted before. Found another "1$ trade-in value" token from the same detecting shop in Ill. . That makes two now, and lets me know I'm not the first to hunt there.

Ended up with 5 junk rings a couple junk earring studs, a swiss army ( knock off? ) knife. A big necklace that loved clinging to my magnets.

Oh and yeah, A pendant with a miniature 1983 Chinese 1 oz. Panda Coin (marked copy right above the date), got over to a buddies pawn shop before coming home and the unmarked bezel tested 14k. So until I get a jeweler to have them open the bezel to test the coin, I can't be sure it is gold. I have looked high and low on the net trying to find another example. Nothing so far.

I figured there may be a chance someone else here has located one of these before and will chime in.

All in all not a bad day hunting the water. And you know dang well when I saw it was a coin my mind went bonkers thinking I had just joined the " Gold Coin Club " :D

Hope you all have the same good luck and stay safe,

Lakota

Yeah! It could be the 1/10th or 1/20th oz version of the big one! I bet it is since the bezel was gold! Congratulations! :clapping: You are sure tearing it up, Lakota!

Kossie, Thank you that is the coin, I found the original while looking yesterday, just not an example of the one I found.

Thanks Mud, though it isn't the 1/10 or 1/20th my friend . Its a Miniature of the full 1 oz coin . I'll take a better close up of the back side with the "copy" mark and post it. Well after.... My wife wakes up  , She is wearing it on the 10k rope chain I found earlier this month, Got this suspicion that she likes the little panda or something :bouncy:

Here is the closer shot of the marking.

Going to try and make it by a jeweler and have the coin removed from the bezel and tested if I can. Still trying to go out and hunt today though ;)

Lakota, I am a bit lost!! it looks like the 1/10th or 1/20'th is exactly the same coin but smaller. Yours looks like same. Does your coin actually say copy on it? I can't tell. Hope its gold. Nice find.

Yup it is small like the 1/20 - 1/10 , and is marked plainly on the temple side above the date "copy". It is exactly like the big 1983 1oz panda coin, only a miniature of it.

Believe me my friend it had me confused till I put it under the micro scope

Got a kids B-day party at a park today so loading up the Cutlass to have some fun,

Update* Itsaring over on the Friendly Forums had found one of these coins set into a ring, had it removed and tested. It tested 10k. I knew someone out there had to have found one of these before.

On another note, went to my wife to collect the thises and thats that I have found water hunting to get all ready to send off to ARA and hmmmm she wouldn't give up the Panda  Imagine That !

Here's a little more I found about Panda coins:

http://news.coinupdate.com/silver-bullion-coins-from-around-the-world-1627/

"Perhaps one of the most popular modern coin series, the Chinese silver panda series has been produced since 1983. Initially offered in extremely limited quantities to collectors in a one ounce version, the series has expanded to include 1/4 and 1/2 ounce coins (struck rarely) as well as larger 5 and 12 ounce coins and recently kilo coins as well. The design changes yearly, although some of the earlier years had the same design for a few years, as well as the 2001 and 2002 issues. Special releases include gold plated pandas, special strikings for Chinese companies (often banks), as well as Panda medals that are generally collected with the series and are usually released in conjunction with numismatic expos around the world. Kind of knew that was going to happen. That's the first thing my wife asks me when I get home, "Did you find any jewerly"? My wife can tell when I'm not being truthful, so I do not even try to seek anything past her.

Nice finds, next time the wife confiscates one of your finds just smile and say merry x-mas. Keep up the good work.:bouncy:
