Morris

New member
I am back in Texas this weekend for a wedding so I nothing to do Friday but go hunt A man told me about a town that was next to a creek that I could go hunt after about a hour I got a VID reading at 8 and about 5" down
so i said ok i'll dig it and out poped this 1816 gold coin!
I am not sure what it is ??... BUT it is the best find I have
EVER found in Texas.. I also found some goods in a old part of town before the Gold Coin after finding it I hunted until dark
and could not wait to post it..
IF you know what is coin is please let me know.

Thanks

P.S.
I am back in Florida now.

It's an Escudos, either a 1 or 2. A 2 Escudos is little larger in diameter than a nickel but yours doesn't look quite the large compared to to the dime in the photo so it's likely a 1. They were minted in Spain and also in Mexico, yours could be either but since it was found in Texas it's probably a Mexico mint. It's a great find regardless, as are the rest of the coins.

I think it is a 1 Escudo on the back of the coin there is a 1 s
on both sides of the shield. any idea what it is worth?
