How soon we forget. It is an Honorable Service Lapel Pin issued to all honorably discharged military service members of the WW II era and may still be authorized. Not sure about that. Yours is pot metal with gilding or paint. There were plastic versions and a sew-on breast or pocket patch. The device was universally referred to as "the ruptured duck," presumably in reference to the frumpy looking eagle.
