my husband and i are new to prospecting for gold & beaches. we're looking for a recommended goldbug that will find gold and be good for the beaches. what do you think of the goldbug dp and goldbug2, or any suggestions?

Yes and yes or the Teknetics G2 also the same as the goldbug2 just different rod design. Whatever you like. See Bart at Big Boys Hobbies on here he's one of the forum sponsors. He'll answer all your concerns and give you a good deal too. Great guy to biz with.

True that Tom, Bart is a great guy to do business from. Also, I have hunted the beach with mine and it does ground balance to salt very easy.

Gold bug DP! It works very well on beaches! Very hot on gold!

Give me a call with questions and or a great price! Thanks, Bart.

1. Is gold bug 2 w/71 khz good for the saltwater beaches for relic, jewelry, coins, etc.

2. Can you give the advantages and/or disadvantages of only one frequencies of 71 khz (Gold Bug 2)?

2. i'm interested in the Gold Bug 2 Pro w/2 coils. which do you recommend for the saltwater searches?

3. if i coat the coils with slicone for saltwater, will that make a diff. in the sensitivity, help any, or ? what do you think of doing that?

ha ha would you answer these questions as #1, etc. thank you so much for the help. appreciate it.

The new Gold Bug DP will ground balance in wet salt and is very easy to use.

The Gold Bug 11 71kHz is a true gold machine [not sure it will run it salt ] but i don't think so.
This machine is so sensitive on small targets , even in dry sand it might test your patience on the smallest bits of metal.

Both are single Frequency detectors. and other machine will run smoother and deeper in wet salt.

How much nugget hunting will you do
How much dry sand
wet sand
Have you detected before.

If you plan on buying 2 of the same detectors , thy can interfear with each other if close together and no frequency shift.

I own a gold bug pro.It is good for prospecting but my dealer has both the pro and gold bug 2.

I have used my gold bug pro in the gold fields. It is noisy and picks up alot of hot rocks in all-metal mode.It is fairly sensative to small gold targets.I found my first nugget detecting last year with the gold bug pro.
Where it really kicks butt is in disc mode.I use it to search areas that would drive only the best of metal detectorists nutz..Alot of iron garbage that causes masking. With the gold bug pro in disc mode I was able to recover some reliics and targets otherwise missed buy other detector's.This would be a plus in Tailing piles, tailing piles are one of your best bets for large nuggets but are loaded with old nails, iron garbage and even lead. The other plus is it can be used outside the gold fields with good sucess. It will ground balance in salt water. Not sure if the gold bug 2 can but I would say so,there is alkaline conditions that can happen in the gold fields.

I myself plan on getting a gold bug 2 in the future. It is the most popular detector in my area.It is less prone to hot rocks.Picks up the smallest nuggets. Is a very well made machine that withstands the tough outdoor enviroment of the gold fields. It is time proven and most likely has found more gold than any other brand of detector. My detector delaer has had more sucess with his gold bug 2 than any other machine he has used in the past.200 nuggets last year in arizona. If I was not commited to buying a V3 this year the gold bug 2 and bought a gold bug pro last year I would have one all ready.
If you plan o ngetting 2 machines I would strongly suggest getting both a gold bug DP and gold bug 2.The gold bug 2 would work in fresh water but salt im still not sure.
The gold bug DP has a 11" coil and would work just about anywhere, parks, beachs ect.....or get the gold bug pro and buy the new 5x10 coil-great for beach hunting and a great shape for the gold fields to get around rocks ect....just my two bits there both great machines.

For a single-frequency machine, the new GB/G2 machines are remarkably good on saltwater beaches. The Gold Bug II however is designed for one thing only-- finding gold nuggets, especially the tiniest ones-- and is nearly useless for any other purpose.

I have the Gold Bug II with all 3 coils. It finds everything metal in the ground. The small coil finds super small items down to 4.5 inches of depth. I'm talking things as small as legs off staples. The biggest coil finds an ounce at about 14 inches and no small stuff near the surface. I think it's the most underrated detector in the world. I also have a Whites V3i and a Minelab X-Terra 705 and the Gold Bug II can find anything they can find.... and deeper! I found 30 coins in my small yard. I think people that own them just don't want anybody else to have them!
