Gold bug2 or atpro

Anyone have these for beach hunting?
I already have and use the minelab excal 2 and E-trac.
The excal is what I use at the beach (straight shaft all the way!) and the E-trac is my main
land unit. I'd love to use the E-trac more in sand but WAY too heavy even with
swingy thingy.
The question is which one of these (if either) should I get for guests and girlfriend to use
when they want to go along?
Gold bug is super light and looks easy.
AT pro looks good but tones seem REAL annoying in video's.
Looking at beach ONLY, and prefer TID for ease for family and not so frequent MD'ers.
Thanks.

According to a man who does seminars on metal detecting the Gold bug finds tiny tiny pieces of foil and metal. He said he uses it around the volleyball courts on a beach. But he said that you need to use a sifter to catch the targets or you will be chasing them all day. One of those kid's round sifters. That is how tiny the targets will be. I don't know your girlfriend, but sifting sand doesn't sound like much fun for her. What about a used Sovereign? Slap an 8 inch coil on it anybody can pinpoint with it. And it is a serious detector on the beach with no need to ground balance for the newbies. Get one with tone ID that is good enough for the beach.

Digger,

Do you think you will be running the unit in the wet sand or just dry sand ? If the users of the detector are dry sand hunting only, I would say get a Tesoro Silver uMax.

I recommended one to a friend at work who wanted to get into detecting, and he loves it. He dry sand hunts and picks up tons of coins as well as rings.

You can discriminate low and look for gold and jewelry ( along with lots of aluminum, tabs and junk) or raise it up and clad hunt.

Super light, super easy to use, inexpensive and NO target ID, which to me, if you want to just hunt, dig and have fun, you don't need. Solid beep..dig it.

Dry sand hunting is easy since you just need a good sand scoop that sifts out the sand and keeps the targets.

Go AT Pro. The GB2 will drive you nuts with small trash and it would probably have a tougher time dealing with a salt beach. Also, The AT Pro is WATERPROOF. Also dust-proof, dirt-proof, and more idiot-proof. The first time the detector tips over and falls into a salt-water puddle will basically pay for the detector. That's why I got an AT Pro.. I nugget hunt in the water and can't afford to fry out a detector. Another reason I like the AT Pro is that I can notch out the last few segments to get rid of large targets and 'wraparound'. That and the ability to run it in all-metal with ID makes it, IMO, a superior beach machine (for the price), especially for fresh water. ..Willy.

Pro Meeting.

3 Pros at different levels, I use the one I find most suitable for the job at hand:shrug:I'm just the driver.
All 3 can handle the effect from salt water ocean beach sand and water.

Gold Bug Pro...............AT Pro.................PS-TDI Pro.

For a light weight and super easy detector I'd get a Tesoro Compadre, lifetime warranty and only $150.00 shipped. It has great iron Discrimination and at12 khz finds the jewelry. If you want something little more complicated and with an ID meter go with the digital Gold Bug Pro. Thanks

Ivan,
How is that TDI at the beach? What coil do you have on it? I haven't ever seen that coil. What do you think of that coil's performance versus the stock coil?

Thanks for all the input.
I already have a tesoro tejon, but even if the top layer of sand is damp from
light rain or dew it's a no at the beach from falsing especially for a beginner.
That and I like to be fairly close to ones I hunt with or whats the point of going with anyone at all?
I've never owned ANYTHING garratt, but the AT pro is cheap so I guess thats
where I'm heading.
It's not going to make me wait to but it, but how long do think it'll take for the AT pro 2
to come out- better headphone connection, longer coil cable for hip mounting....etc?
Thanks again,

This PS TDI-Pro works well for me on the beaches that I've used it on.
Coil fitted in pic. is a "Razoredge" 17x8" made by Razorback Coils USA.
Very nice coverage, good depth, fully closed so sand rinses of easily, light weight easy to use, but to light for water use, it floats.
Depth is within an inch of our stock coil which is a 12" OZ single field mono.

The pro will find very small objects. I have found BBs and the smallest silver also. Toady's pic- I can email. Has auto GB Iron disc. I love it.
