Gold Bug Pro sounds off when bumped

Hey guys. I'm pretty sure that I already read somewhere that this is normal but I just want to make sure its normal, to the degree that I am experiencing. So I have noticed that when I bump my coil on something or even when I tap it lightly with my hand, my machine sounds off. This happens with both my 5" coil and my 10" elliptical and it does it no matter if I'm in all metal mode or disc mode. Like I said I know I read somewhere that this is normal but I want to make sure. I'm brand new to metal detectors and I want to make sure I didn't screw up my machine. So, Detector gurus, flame on! :hot:

Hmm. Hopefully some others will chime in on this one. I have noticed this when I hit the coil fairly hard sideways against something. But being used to other detectors over the years, this is somewhat normal.

Do you have the coil wire wrapped snug or loose around the shaft? If the wire is loosely wrapped and you bump the coil, especially from the bottom, the wire will move and the coil is basically detecting the metal in the wire and giving a signal.

That very well could be it. I wouldn't say it's tightly wrapped but I wouldn't call it loose either. I keep it with a bit of slack so I can fold the coil back on the shaft when I put it in my bag. Doesn't fit otherwise. Guess I will have to tighten that up a bit and just take the coil off each time before I put it back in the bag.

Use a couple of velcro straps to hold the wires so they dont wiggle. It should still give you enough play to fold it up.

It has a couple that came with it. I have been using them but I may not have the right position tho. Ill just make sure its nice and tight and take them off each time. I have a hard time getting it to fit in my carry bag with the 10" elliptical anyways. Thanks for the advice!

Let us know if this helped.

So I took the gbp out with me fishing this weekend. Got bored with catching no fish so I swung her around a bit. Used my 5" coil, made sure the cable was good and tight and didn't have any issues. Didn't try the 10" but I think I found my problem. Thanks guys!

:clapping::clapping::clapping: Thanks for keeping us informed of the outcome. Hope you have no more troubles and find gold in your shovel. HH
