Gold Bug Pro or G2

Whimpster

Member
I'm looking at buying another metal detector to complement my Omega 8000 with 5"DD, 11"DD and the 10" concentric coil.
I'm wanting to do a little prospecting in my area for gold and I keep hearing that they are pretty much the same machine?
Can anyone shed some light on which on I should go with...pro's and con's please??
Are they the same machine with a different coat?

Thanks Bob.

You heard it from the man, Bob.

The only thing I'll add is, if you want to buy JUST the unit, and no additional searchcoils, then you should get the Gold Bug Pro. It comes stock with the 5" coil -- whereas the G2 (and the Gold Bug DP) comes stock with the 11" coil.

The 5" coil will prove more sensitive to smaller items (like tiny gold nuggets), so again -- if you want the small coil and if you were to buy the G2, you'd have to then purchase the 5" coil as an accessory. The Gold Bug Pro, on the other hand, will already come equipped with the 5".

You could always add the 11" coil later (which would be good, if you plan to coin hunt with the unit, things like that). But, for purely gold prospecting, get the Pro.

Have fun!

Your 5 and 11 inch DD coils you have for your Omega will work on either the Goldbug or G2. I would buy whichever machine you can find cheapest.

See if you can find a dealer that will sell you a G2 with a 5 x 10 inch DD coil, since you already have the other coils. You'll really like that coil, because it covers a lot of ground and has about the same sensitivity as the 5 inch DD coil has.

DUH -- I totally read right past the fact that you already have the 5" DD and 11" DD coils for your Omega. That's all you need -- you are all set on coils.

Sounds like you decided on the G2...awesome.

Frank-S -- sorry you had bad luck with yours. That configuration is used on multiple units; most don't have an issue. First Texas will take care of it for you.

The loose control box is easy to fix. Carefully roll back the rubber grip from the top of the handle grip a inch or two, then tighten the set screw. If you want the fix to last a long time, put a some LocTite on the treads then tighten the screw.
