Gold Bug Pro for All Round Metal Detector

Steve_A

New member
Hello All,

This beginner would like to buy a All Round Metal Detector with TID.

I really like the looks and weight of the Gold Bug but would it be a good All Round Metal Detector also ??

was my 1st detector still have it and it finds coins for me and jewelery as with any machine it takes some time to learn so what ever you chose to buy best to ask yourself what you want it for and do plenty of research. i use the gold bug for the dry sand beach (salt) junky parks as in heaps of trash amongst the good stuff ( works great there) and maybe one day small gold in the gold fields.
cheers
AJ

By "beginner" how much experience have you had with any metal detector? I should ask just how "All Round" you expect a detector to be?

The Gold Bug pro and G2 are both very light weight and well balanced, and I will also give them credit for their 'looks', but there can be some limit as to how "All Round' or Multi-Purpose they are for some hobbyists.

Don't get me wrong because it is usually the 1st detector I grab this past few months for most sites I hunt. One reason is because they are trashy and I keep the 5" DD coil mounted as it does the best job. Also, I like the quick control set-up, but that's because I prefer to hunt with no more than iron nail rejection, if that, depending upon the site. To help keep me happy the Gold Bug Pro or G2 provide the 2-Tone ID to help classify most iron.

However, you didn't state what you want to hunt for or the types of sites you plan to search. For some "beginners" a preset GB model, such as the Delta, is quite adequate. If you want more versatility to have more of a multi-purpose performance, then I would suggest you look at the Teknetics Gamma or Omega. Either of them can use the same coils as the GB pro or G2, plus they can use the concentric coils, offer more Tone ID option, and (for some hobbyists) the target ID info is preferred.

So, while I like and use the G2, I also use the Gamma and Delta and it's all thanks to the success I had with the Omega which I got March of last year. Honestly, I think for most average beginner hobbyists who want versatility, the Gamma or Omega are the way to go. Just a thought to consider.

Thank you all !!

I have a Tesoro Cibola for a year know but like to go for extra wit TID. With all-round i meant turn on and go find some stuff :) I'm not especially searching for coins, gold, relics etc.

F5 might be a better all round choice. That depends if your using it for gold nugget's also.Thats the big thing with the goldbugpro-it is a very good gold nugget machine also.More so than a f5 (which still can be used) but I am going to say the f5 would hit silver depper and maybe a little less bottle caps!

Steve as you can tell from the replies it's a very good all around machine. Very light, simple to use, great in trash and 5 year warranty. If you have any questions or need pricing feel free to call or email me. Love to help. Thanks, Bart

cant get much more turn on and go than the Cibola , Cibola isn't as fast as the gold bug or as sensitive which has advantages for some hunting, finding good targets in the junk is the gold bugs go! ( but it does like round things so bottle tops are part of the fun) :detecting: (and so are coins that others cant get at) i have a Cibola and a bug pro and they cover both parts of the park gold bug for junky spots and Cibola with Clean Sweep Coil for wide open spaces, so in my mind the bug would compliment the Cibola.

OK, this should answer your question .....

2011 Finds so far since March of this year using the Gold Bug Pro with the 11" DD and 5" DD coils .... (please also note, the stock coil for the F5 was also used to find some of this loot).

2 1945 P Silver War Nickels
1 1961 Silver Quarter
2 Gold Rings (14K)
1 Gold Ring (9K)
3 Silver Rings

Clad ... $296.67 (05/09/2011)

I wish I had access to the G2 or Gold Bug Pro when I was starting. Nothing wrong with paying your dues but there is nothing wrong in having a lot of early success with a very responsive machine. Even if you are just getting the easy targets at first, I think you will have a shorter curve in learning what various targets good and bad are like.

I'm very VERY happy with my Gold Bug Pro. Rare is the detector which puts a satisfied smile on my face. Get one and grin away too!

Here in the Netherlands I'm in the same position, just ordered mine today !

Hoping to share my best metal detecting finds soon...

If you are a true beginner, then you will find things with the G2 or Gold Bug. However, if you want to learn and develop your detecting skills, I would suggest starting with a detector other than the Gold Bug/G2. If you dont know anything about ground balancing, or its relevance/importance, then you wont use the Gold Bug to its potential. If you want to learn detecting on a manual ground balance machine, something like the Fisher F4 or the Teknetics Gamma or Omega will give you plenty of scope to find good targets while learning the principles and basics of detecting. It's my view that the Gold Bug is a machine you move onto, rather than start with. JMHO
