Gold Bug / Gold Bug Pro: What's The Difference?

CladDog

New member
I have reviewed both. They both share the same case and same standrd coil. They both operate at 19 kHz.

I see the Pro is also billed for relic hunting where the standard Gold Bug is not (why?).

I have looked for the differences between the two but can't really find any, beyond a remark that the Pro is also a little more sensitive to coins than the standard Gold Bug.

Does anyone know?

The Gold Bug Pro has a manually adjustable ground balance in addition to the "Grab" button. The standard Gold Bug has the Grab function only. That is the only actual operational difference I know of. The ads claim the Pro is more sensitive but that could be marketing implying that from the ability to get a better ground balance in some situations using manual, which in turn can offer fractionally better sensitivity.

I pretty much demand the option of manual ground balance in my VLF detectors but the Grab button functions extremely well. Hard for me to tell most users manual is really needed in this case. The standard Gold Bug is a real bargain for the price.

In addition to the Manual Ground Balance the Pro also has VCO in both the all metal mode and the Discrimination mode.

So does the standard gold bug the only ones that dont have VCO in disc are pre S.E 2.0 software.. You cant get one any more! I own one it has saturated audio in disc Two tone beep and dig but has VCO in all metal plus manual ground balance.
I also have the G2 and have had the new standard bug. The standard operated very well the ground grab works fine for most hunting. but it was noticably less powerful than my G2. It was like my G2 at about 70 on the gain.

They all have dual processors. And the plain GB is even a 4.0 software now exactly like the pro except without manual GB and is less sensitive. I cant believe Fisher just sits there and doesn't address this kind of question on the forums. Seems they would want the misinformation to stop.
