Gold Bug Dog Edtion

I just received my new gold bug ? whatever it is to be. It will air test to a max of 4.5 " on a dime and my F5 will kick its ass on a 6.4 grain nuggett with any of the three coils I have for it. The manual is not very descriptive of the actual operation of the unit but is fair. I did not receive the rubber washer for the coil installation no big deal I have plenty of them from my prevouis fisher buys. I would rate the machine about the same as my sons F2 for depth. Good luck to all and happy hunting the F2 is only 199 and has four tones and quite accurate tid for a beginner machine.

Take care

I didn't get a washer either. How do you quiet it down when you swing it? If I can't figure it out Im sending it back.

Since they are starting to remove posts I would like to say the audio is very nice and was what I had hoped for, very similiar to the d2 setting on the F5 but better. I am sure fisher will get all of these problems fixed. All I can say is Scotty give me all the power you got. I think we need a new dilithium crystal

Take care

Bob

Sorry, I doubt this very much. 4.5" on a dime. :pulltab:

I tested quite a few of Gold Bugs this morning, and the 10"- 11" is more like it on a dime, (11" coil). All the ones I tested today would get 12" - 14" on a US Nickel using the 11" coil. On a 5 grain piece of gold shaped like a 1/2 of a small pea. is in the 5" range in discriminate mode, & 6"+ in all metal mode. This was with the 5" coil.

So with closing, I say there's something not right with your figures.

Mr. Bill

I just went, and tested my unit with a 5" coil, & a dime. Air test, using the speaker, I received a repeatable signal at 7", and a small weak signal at 8"

I would say something is up with my machine. GB is way off compared to my f5 in the same spot

Take care

Iv been playing with mine some what. I get a good signal on a nickle with the coil raised abut a foot or more above it. I just thought it would pick up small pieces of gold. I havent really tried it on it but would like to know how to shut it up in all metal mode. It seems to beep on everything. In d. mode its ok. I will try to make a video latter..

A foot on a nickle thats 12 inches well thats much better news

running any machine in all metal will be noisy are you sure you have correctly ground balanced the machine?

I just found out that my wife ordered me a GB SE for fathers day and it will be here on Tuesday.
I have wanted one since they put the info out on them and was going to buy one myself but was nervous because of some of the problems. ( MY WIFE ROCKS )
I just hope i get one without any issues...

To start with, it does beep on everything in the all metal mode, (all metal).

Could be you just have it cranked up too much for the area.

How you doing with Ground Grab ?? It has to be done in the all metal mode. What's you ground balance figure after using ground grab ?

Running in All Metal produces a lot of noise, especially if you don't have the threshold set properly. Then the other side of things, perhaps your sweeping over a trashy place with a lot of hidden targets ?

You need to supply more information to receive help. :)

I agree with Mr. Bill on the Gold Bug testing with the 5"DD and the 11"DD coils on the nickels and dimes
except with the 5"DD coil where I get 11" depth on the dime using my headphones.

Using headphones, I get a solid 7" and a faint 8" on a dime with 90% sensitivity using the 5" coil in an air test. If someone is getting 11" in an air test using a 5" coil, my machine is, well, junk.

I don't think yours is junk. I was chatting with my dealer and told him I am getting a GB for a specific reason...not for coin hunting. This machine has a lot of features I like...simplicity being one of them along with light weight.

I am selling off a lot of my detectors...not because they do not perform. Because I am getting older, can't swing the heavier machines for long periods of time, don't like hip mounting and I just have too many. The GB with both coils, as long as it hits the low conductors and gold the way it was designed, is all I will need for a lot of the applications I am going to use it for.

If I want to get silver and dimes at 10+ inches, my CZ's will do the trick. If I get a new hunting site that is old, has the potential to pop out silver, the GB will not be the detector I will use. I want to use my GB for gold jewelry and beach hunting. If it will sniff out the coins at 8 inches, then that's good too !

I doubt there's anything wrong. I was at full sensitivity, mesured distance, with internal speaker. 7" to 8" using the 5" DD coil.
Using the 11" DD coil and there's a increase. I was also using clad coins, to clear it up a bit more.

Please don't take this as a personal slam against you, it is not what I mean it to be. Perhaps due to the modulated, VCO type audio, it just put the deeper sound out of your hearing range ?? The sound does change pitch as it get's deeper. Do I like this, naw. But it's the way it is.
