Gold Bug and F?? coils

After doing some reading here on this site and other places with coils that can be used on the Gold Bug SE / Pro / G2 I looked at the idea in more detail.

I was looking to see if the F5 coils would also work. After doing some research on it I found that some dealers had the F5 coils listed as working with the Gold Bug, these being the 11" DD and the 5" DD. So, with this in mind, I asked myself if these coils work, what about the stock coil that comes with the F5, this being the standard 10 inch elliptical concentric open-center search coil. I had one small problem though. My F5 coil had the push in type connector and not the screw type. I solved that by purchasing a 5 pin female screw connector and changed the plug on the lead of the standard 10 inch elliptical concentric open-center search coil that came with the F5.

Now, to get this all to work I had to do some research on the way the plugs where wired, it was a simple job, but I am not going to go into details here on how to do it, all I can tell you is that it works on the Gold Bug Pro that I have.

All I need now is for winter here in New England to get out of town and allow the snow and ice to melt so I can go out and play at the weekends and when I get home early from work during the week.

It seems that the North East of the USA is the Proverbial Toilet Bowl of late -- it keeps getting dumped on !!

Why would you want the 10" elip coil anyways? The stock Omega coil that I have works on my G2, but the 11"DD works better..........

Because this coil works really well over trash free open ground on the F5, so I thought I'd give it a try on the Gold Bug and see how well it does. Not only that, it's not as heavy as the 11" DD.

Bud, You come up with a quarter size target with the 10" coil at 10-12 inches deep, then I'll believe it!! I know the 11" DD coil is the DEEPEST coil that Fisher makes, hands down in MY SOIL!!!!!!!!

I use all three of the coils on my Omega for different types of hunting. Yes, the 11" DD is deeper then the 10," but the 10" is lighter, pin points great and there are times when digging 10 1/2-11 1/2" deep targets is good enough. HH jim tn

From the TOP OF THIS FORUM Dave Johnson states the Gold Bugs were made to run
DD coils All other coils are a hit or miss deal.
I would take my DD coil over a concentric any day, especially in trash.
