Gold Bug 29'er Superior Performance

There have been a number of threads on this and other forums about the alleged superior performance of the Gold Bug 29'er. Those that have them claim that they're "deeper" than the current Gold Bug Pro V/4.0 model and say that they'll never give theirs up. Those with the so-called "silver fix" seem to be even more sought after. Of course I know that everyone has an opinion and that opinions on this subject may differ. My real question is this - is it worth picking one of these 2.9 models up if one becomes available?

BTW - I believe I read that Keith Southern has owned both the 2.9 and the 4.0 (don't know if he still does) and that he apparently prefers the current 4.0 model to the 29'er. Keith - please correct me if I'm wrong.

I had a 2.9 and now have the latest version Gold Bug Pro. I find the fixation on older version detectors fascinating. But then there are people still using 20 year old detectors because in their opinion they are the best ever made. Personally I am more interested in what Fisher will come out with next, not stepping back in time.

Put another way, no, I have not spent two seconds wishing I ad that old 2.9 back.

I have the GBSE 29 and I HAD a G2. I prefer the GBSE over the G2, which, if you open it up, the board has Gold Bug on it. I found that the GBSE works better in the iron patches that I have hunted...............Mark
