Gold Bug 2 - New Owner Questions

Crabman

New member
Hi there,

I just scored a low use Gold Bug 2 for a decent price. This machine is going to have 2 primary uses. 1) Micro-jewelry hunting at the beach (dry sand) and 2) checking out some old gold fields in the southern california desert. I have some questions as I've never done this kind of detecting before! Here goes:

1) Is it worthwhile to purchase the 14 inch coil? Anyone have experience with that? If so, can you tell me in which situations you would choose to use it?

2) Any general tips or recommendations?

Pretty excited to get the machine. We have a camping trip planned over Easter weekend on the edge of the Mojave desert. There were some small mines there in the 1890, still some ghost towns and what not remain.

Best!

Hi Crabman. There is a really good video on youtube showing how to tune it for gold hunting. Its about 2 minutes long but informative. Wish I had the link for you but I didn't save it. OOPs! Wait a minute. I just looked in my history and I think this is the link... good luck. http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=MAaHAVvhhVY
