Hi guys, I found my first "class ring" Funny how years go by and ive never found one. This one has three initials and I would like to return it. It`s a california state university ring from 1985.
How would I go about it.?

I have not had a great deal of luck returning rings, but I did get one back. I called the school and told them what I had found, to see if they could tell me who the person was. I then left my phone number with the school, in the event that they were able to figure out who the person was. The person then called me and I simply asked for a cashier's check for $20 to insure and mail the item. I think some schools or people think I am trying to scam, asking for the $20, but hey, why should I take a hit on shipping or my time to package and mail? I am already wasting my time trying to find a needle in a haystack and should just scrap the damn thing. I am pretty synical about this returning thing, can you tell? Perhaps your experience will be more joy-filled than mine has been. As it stands right now, if it's gold it's mine, but if not gold, then it may get a play on a return. Just another pirate's humble opinion mate! Do with it, as you will!

Here is a pic of the one who went home! OBTW, it was stainless, no loss!

Yea thanks mate, Ive been doing just that for 15 years. Allot of gold has been sold. I`m shure its just the luck of the draw
Because I have never found a tracable ring before.
I have barter`d with it , sold it and given most away gifts.
Good luck out there.

Go to my web page at http://beachgold.net/bgmding/index.html and you'll find info on returning lost class rings.

I hope this helps, at least it's a start.

First of all... Concrats...on the ring

2nd...RIght on GH...

My wife says they were over it along time ago...

Scrap the "D^%$" ring!!

I've contacted hotels where I've found identifiable rings to ask their help in making returns, not interested. I've spoken with the Parks Staff and Lifeguards at public beaches, not their job. My best results so far are with people who approach me and ask if I've found such and such a ring but it is still like finding a needle in a haystack. The don't seem to realize that just because their ring went into the water at this end of the beach 2 weeks ago that it hasn't moved a long way in any direction except up.
We do what we can and it is a great feeling to lighten somebody's life by doing a return.
If you can't find the owner I figure it wasn't meant to be returned.

Cheers and Nice Find,

BDA:cool:

Still have all my loot...15 or so class rings...bowl rings...Countless wedding bands with names and dates...

And yes, I have spent many hours trying to return some..with no avail!

I might give it one more shot before I decide to scrape... if and when that time comes!

the best advice I can give anyone is to contact the president of the chapter of the fraternity or sorority the owner belonged to if it is inscribed on the ring, and usually it is. I've tried contacting the university alumni associations before and have never had any luck with them, although I was told once by a graduate whose ring I returned that they never have a problem locating him each year when they want donations, lol. If possible, the fraternity or sorority is absolutely the best way. Good luck. I recently returned my second Clemson ring right before the holidays and it was through her sorority. It really makes them feel good and that makes you feel good.

It's nice to be able to return something lost... all warm & fuzzy.

I can certainly understand some "apprehension" after investing big bucks in recovery equipment, and spending hours upon hours flogging the turf... and then beginning a search for the loser.

I would just have to leave it up to the individual...

Occasionally when detecting, distressed folks rattle my cage with a story of something just lost "between here, and there."
Most often, I ask them to write their name and phone number on a scrap of paper and I'll call if located.
I had once read in a detector magazine that lost items are frequently NOT where people think they may be.
My time spent detecting is not a public service, and I don't want to be drafted into anyone's wild goose chase.

I suppose I could be coaxed into detecting for hire...

Try and get ahold of the university over the internet. If not get an address for the school and send them a letter explaining that you found the ring and give them the information that is in the ring so they can help you find the owner. Hope that helps.
