Gold around south east Queensland?

I know of the most well know gold strikes here , but I think they might be a bit picked over. does anyone around here go on trips close by, I have a garrett detector that I'm still trying to learn to use. I think here at Ipswich I'm picking up minerals alot. but not sure how to tune the detector. my grandad was the prospector in the family and he left me some of his gear. I would be glad to join someone on an outing especially if they could teach me a bit about this garrett detector. I have all my own camping gear and such thax.

G'day Yank,
I am also a resident of SEQ so I can give you a few hints.
Sadly SEQ is a very difficult area to detect gold. The best bet is around Warwick if you can find a property who will let you on.

Perhaps joining the Brisbane Metal Detecting Club might be an option.

I did that and saw some gold found on outings years ago.

However, I had to travel to Rockhampton to find my first piece then went to the Palmer River region on holiday and finally moved there for 5 years after buying some mining leases.

I would also consider changing to a Minelab machine over a Garrett. They are a better option in Aus. conditions.

I am happy to go into further detail anytime you wish. Just let me know if I can help.

Cheers

Gudday mate,
I thought I was the only one in Ipswich that looked around for the elusive one.
I usually head on down to Tooloom, about 3hrs or so, not a bad little spot but you gotta put the hours in.
I use to dredge down there years ago, but the old dredge is in mothball now and as we speak I am converting it into a small high banker.
I have been using a river sluice and have had a bit of luck with that, just enough to keep me interested.
I am well and truely overdue for a trip before it gets to hot to dig.
Like Dave said, go the Minelab as they are designed with our conditions in mind.
HH and cheers
