Gold antique ring in my scoop!

Hi guys, is been a tough few weeks here in the uk, I've been detecting for a couple of hours most days, with very little to show for my efforts. I did find 6 old half penny's (1940's) within a metre square of each other on one low tide search. They must have been there for over 50 years and not moved at all! I think I must have done over 30 hours hunting since my last gold find, so I was happy when this buckle ring showed up in the scoop:) it is hallmaked 15 k and has a date letter which says it was made between 1849 and 1874, so it's well over 150 years old! It's my oldest find yet, and my first gold for ages! I hope your hours spent searching per item of gold found ratio is better than my 30 to 1 ratio at the moment! Good luck :)

[sup]I like it!![/sup]

Ya puts in the time and Ya finds the gold!! (Or not!!!!!!!!!) no guarantees Friend,

No effort spent---------no gold!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't think belts were invented until the 1900's, until then pants were held up with rope or suspenders, and it wasn't until after 60's when the women started wearing the pants in the family that they got really popular!
That's a beauty there WW, and you worked for it! Nice!

Great find WW :clapping:
Not managed to hit the beaches for ages myself, but did manage a pasture hunt and was rewarded with a bronze ring (of similar age to yours  )
but badly bent...got it sorted now though :)

Would prefer gold anyday though if I had a choice :lmfao:

Thanks CJ, thanks Mud, your turn next:) Nice bronze ring Mike, and well done on the straightening out, proper job. The shaft you made for my Excalibur is great! I can hunt as long as i want no arm ache :clapping:Hope to see you soon mate, the guys say hi:)

Nice one WW, old devil for sure......those hallmarks are cryptic sometimes

Thanks OBN, I was so stoked to see it in there! I've been researching Victorian buckle rings and they were given as a symbol of never ending love. The hallmarks are clear inside, the makers mark is an L then the year mark is an H in a square box. Lots of other Victorian stuff has come of this beach, I know there is more there.......

The buckle ring is a very nice find.....got some history behind it.Good info on the symbolic meaning,I found a pair of sterling buckle earrings and always wondered why a buckle?

Yes I thought a buckle was a strange thing to put on jewellery as well. It really was a different world back then! Cheers bob :)
