Gold and Silver Field Day

Treasure Mike

New member
Went to a local sports field after work tonight to see what I could find. Kids playing baseball at one end of the field so I go to the other end and work the sidelines off the playing field. Find the usual clad coins (about 25) half or more in pennies. While walking around I almost step on this silver chain. There it was just laying on top of the ground. 10 mm links 24 inches long 58 grams of .925 silver. After about an hour in half I decide to head for the truck when I get a solid 20 hit on the MXT. About two inches down out comes this gold ring. The color looks odd to me. I"m use to finding 10 and 14 k rings. This one is more yellow. I look inside the band and I see it is marked 21 k. I never heard of that karat number being used in jewelry. Has anyone else? The other marking are not familiar to me either. Anyway, it's a woman's ring about size 5 or 6 and it weighs 2.7 grams. Gotta love the MXT!

Hi Treasure Mike,

Congratulations!!! Very nice finds. Not familiar with the markings in the ring either. Regarding the chain, it truly does pay to keep your eyes open. And, you would not have been there to see it if you were not a MDer.

Good luck (Not that you need it)

I spent some time in England with the AF and married an English lady. The gold ring she has from her grandmother is dark like the one pictured and it is 21k. If memory serves me correctly, I believe the English also have a different k scale from ours. Hope it helps. del.

A custom jeweler can make gold in whatever k you want. I had two rings done for my wife in 22 karat, the jeweler hand inscribed "22k" on the inside. Your find may simply be a custom ring.

Yes, gold of that high a purity is sure a pretty yellow.
