Here are the only mentionable finds for the past week. I thought the earring was junk until I got home and saw T&Co on back. That was a nice surprise. Then Today was a real nice surprise. It read a solid 16, but quieter than normal. It was about 7 inches down, wet, beach sand. I was playing with my settings today, trying to get a little deeper. There are a few Excals here on island, they mostly stay out in the water though. I am pretty sure there going deeper than me when on shore though. I just have to stay ahead of them and get it before they do. I had the gain up just past the pre-set, the threshold was at a nice hum, but the detector is very unstable at settings this high. I feel that the detector was going deeper, because this part of the beach I detect on a regular basis, yet I still continue to find the goods out there. The detector will run very smooth at 6 or 7 on the gain, but I don't think it is going down to 6 or 7 inches. I feel I was digging change at 10 - 12 inches today. I do believe that my detector was making me a little insane by the end of a 4 hour hunt today. It would run really smooth in the dry sand, with the gain almost maxed out. However, a little closer to the wet sand, the detector sounded like there were 20 little birds chirping in my ears. It did seem to pay off toward the end of the day. I just spent a lot of time going over the same spots numerous times seeing if it was a repeatable beep, or just falsing out. How much depth am I really losing? For example, for me to actually search in the water, when it's calm, I have to set my Gain to 3 or else it over loads. How deep will it detect at 3 on the gain? I am getting a Excal as soon as I go back to the states. I just can't wait for the rings anymore, so I am searching at 3......What the hell is wrong with me? I really got hooked on this whole metal detecting thing. With a view like this, I enjoy finding pull tabs and bottle tops.......The gold, diamonds and bikinis make it even that much better. What a great hobby.
