Going to North Carolina Mountains

I'm going to the North Carolina mountains in November with the whole family. Would like to try a little panning since I was told that their was a good stream that runs in the back of the cabin that we will be staying in.

I can't remember the county but it is somewhere near tweetsy railroad and was told that we would be about 20 miles on the other side of the mountain from Cherokee or something like that. It has been a while since I've been in that area.

Any suggestions on detecting or panning?

Thanks,

Randy
