Going to give my 1270 a try out today.

Going to give my 1270 a try out today at a hammered confederate camp. I will post what I find later.

This is what I found. I found out it likes iron. I'll stick with my CZ's. Anyone interested in a like new 1270 with a new 10.5" & used 8" coil send me a PM.

you've got to be using it wrong. primary -all metals and secondary iron disc to check the target, sure you'll dig big iron, its a civil war site, there must be a lot of masked goodies there, if you have that much iron, I can pull up coins and brass stuff at old foundations in with iron, and we don't have civil waqr sites in Jersey. Don't give up on that 1270, learn it and it will pay off.

High,
I must agree with shooter.
Go back to your site and try following settings.

Volume : 8

Sensitivity : about 8 to 9 (lower if you like a silent threshold or if your ground is heavily mineralized to give many false signals)

Primary mode : Iron swtich ON and Iron Disc at max.

Secondary mode : Disc set aroud 5 (maybe a little higher if you find to much junk)

Some people who like silent search in Disc 2 switch the Silent toggle to ON

In your primary mode you have now eliminated most small iron.

If you get a signal and flick to secondary mode and still get a signal it is either very large iron or a piece worth digging.

When you then switch to pinpoint, you can see whether it is large iron or something else.

At least that is how I set up/use my 1270.

Edit: on the 1270 you can lower your sensitivity without loosing hardly any depth.

Ok guys, I'm going to give it another shot.

I got out for a little today with my 1270 to do a little relic huntin. Didn't do so well in the discrimination & iron modes but right before I got rain ed out I tried the all metal mode. Right after ground balancing I found two shot. 22 bullets & a case of one. The thing is I've been over this spot with all of my other detectors. I think I will give it one more shot. HH

I gave it it's last shot. I just don't like it. I guess I'm spoiled with my CZ's.

The 1270 also likes silver, when I had mine I would run the sensitivity up into the noise and disc at max and I was finding some good silver coins. I am still finding some silver but nothing compared to the 1270. I don't hunt relics so about all I can say about that is the 1270 was made for that and I have heard that it does a outstanding job. No intent on being ugly here, but just wonder if you miss the ID meter. I have heard that a lot of people can get very meter dependent. Just a thought.

I have had a lot of detectors over the years, and the only one I wish I had back is the 1270 with the 5x10 elliptical coil.

Hope you get it working for you, the 1270 is great machine.

High,
Yes, that is very true.
While the 1270 is supposed to be pretty well a turn on and go machine, the learning curve as to what the beeps mean is not.
Being a single tone beep machine and having no meter, the operator has to listen to the sound very carefuly, because it is the only means of target ID.
In the beginning it is best to dig at all signals until you get familiar what what the certain "choped" and "frayed" signals can mean.
I am someone who definitely does not like to dig huge holes. Pinpointing with the 10.5" coil does take practice to be spot on.
But depth wise the 1270 is on par with the 6000Di Pro SL and the XLT.
